Nitish as PM Modi’s challenger in 2024 will be the best thing for the BJP

Nitish Kumar PM

Nitish Kumar has dumped BJP and is back in the court of Lalu Yadav. With the support of Tejashwi Yadav, Kumar was sworn in as the CM of Bihar for the eighth time in the duration of 22 years. He will go down as the only politician to possess some strange ability of somersaults. This is proven by Nitish Kumar himself with his innumerable u-turns.

The equation between BJP and JD(U)

While many political analysts are busy recollecting about the older tiffs between BJP and JD(U) and blaming them for the breakup, the truth is something else. The conversation is revolving around Nitish Kumar’s decision to keep JD(U) away from union cabinet expansion and the Bihar CM skipping the NITI Ayog meeting presided by PM Modi.

The JD(U) too has blamed the BJP and has made claims of humiliation. Not to forget, despite JD(U) being at the third position in terms of seats, the BJP made the way for Nitish Kumar to be the CM of the state. The BJP compromised on its policies, from CAA to caste census.

Nitish’s move run by desire to run for PM

As reported by TFI earlier, Nitish Kumar will hold onto the CM chair for now and will later pass it on Tejashwi, while himself marching towards Delhi. Few have understood that Kumar has switched sides solely based on his personal desires. Nitish Kumar’s prime ministerial ambitions are hidden from none. Kumar’s close confidant Upendra Kushwaha has also asserted multiple times that Kumar is a perfect ‘PM Material’.

The timing of Kumar’s switch is also crucial, as he resigned on August 9, comfortably after waiting till August 6, which was the last date to announce a vice-presidential candidate. It is quite possible that Nitish Kumar has snapped ties after being denied the vice-presidential berth. And, through his move Kumar might be hoping to be Opposition’s PM candidate in 2024.

Nitish Kumar may pitch in for being Opposition’s PM candidate

With Nitish Kumar pitching for the Opposition’s PM candidature, he becomes one among the several leaders with prime ministerial ambitions including CM Mamata Banerjee, Telangana CM KCR, Rahul Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Arvind Kejriwal among others.

The Opposition has failed miserably in reaching a consensus among them as far as the prime minister candidate is concerned. The same has been witnessed in 2014 and 2019 general elections. But, will the Opposition unite in favour of Nitish Kumar? The chances are negligible.

To add on to the competition, the others who stake claim have a loyal voter base. For example, Mamata Banerjee has sizable voters not only among the Muslims, but also Bengali-speaking Hindus. KCR and Kejriwal too enjoy ample support in their respective regions. But, Nitish Kumar has no voter base. Even if he plays the Kurmi card, he won’t be able to gather more than 1 per cent of the total 5 per cent votes.

Even if he succeeds and gets himself declared as the Opposition’s PM candidate, he would be facing Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose name is enough to win elections, and that would be a cakewalk for the BJP. Be it a BJP supporter or a critic of the ruling party, everyone is aware of the power of PM Modi. Such is the Modi wave that BJP has blossomed in the country like never before. For us, the entire episode will be a delicious treat to watch.
