Laal Singh Chaddha, Taran Adarsh’s Silence and International Box Office Scam

Laal Singh Chaddha flop

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is a colossal disaster. The film has already been declared a flop domestically. While the film couldn’t attract cinemagoers and failed to create records in India, it is being reported that the film has broken a significant record at the worldwide box office. However, the facts are suggesting something else.

Laal Singh Chaddha’s overseas collection

If the reports are anything to go by, the Forrest Gump remake is now the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 in international markets. The reports are claiming that it has overtaken hits such as Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and The Kashmir Files if international market is taken into consideration.

In over a week of release, Laal Singh Chaddha collected only a mere amount of $7.5 million (Rs 59 crore). On the other hand, Gangubai Kathiawadi’s collection stood at $7.47 million, while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ended up with $5.88 million in its hands. The Kashmir Files meanwhile earned an amount of $5.7 million. You see, each of these three movies was also a major hit in India.

A box office scam

But, here are the facts. Flop Laal Singh Chaddha, in India, has only been able to make a little over Rs 55 crore. Since its collection in the international market is 59 crores, the worldwide gross now stands at Rs 126 crore. It might be sounding like a whopping 126 crores, which it is, but for a film like The Kashmir Files which hardly was made on a budget of 15 crores. Mind you, the film’s collection in India alone stands at around 250 crores.

On the other hand, there is Laal Singh Chaddha. The film was produced on a reported budget of Rs 180 crore. When did a movie made on the budget of 180 crores collecting only 126 crores became a hit. When I last heard, if the movie’s collection is less than its budget, Laal Singh Chaddha is declared a flop. But, since it is Aamir Khan, the media is seemingly showering love or what we can call sympathy on him.

Taran Adarsh’s silence

Interestingly, Taran Adarsh has been silent over these reports. The Film trade analyst had last written about the film on Twitter to inform its 5th-day collection. He had tweeted, “#LaalSinghChaddha is rejected… #LSC *5-day* total is lower than *Day 1* total of #ThugsOfHindostan [₹ 50.75 cr; #Hindi version], do the math… Thu 11.70 cr [#RakshaBandhan], Fri 7.26 cr, Sat 9 cr, Sun 10 cr, Mon 7.87 cr [#IndependenceDay]. Total: ₹ 45.83 cr. #India biz.”

His silence over the overseas collection of Laal Singh Chaddha is enough to indicate that the film is a sham. It is a humiliating flop for Aamir Khan and the Boycott trend should be accredited for the same. Even the apology didn’t work and Aamir Khan was forced to beg the audience to watch his film. However, nothing worked.

It is time for Bollywood to introspect and learn from its mistakes. Rather than behaving like a god themselves, they should start respecting the sentiments of the audience and serve some fresh content to the audience.
