The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal seems to have developed a tendency of attention-seeking, no matter through controversies or via his coincident good deeds. This attitude of Kejriwal proves the famous Hindi proverb- “जिनके खुद के घर शीशे के हो, वह दूसरों के घर पत्थर नहीं मारते”, which simply means, Those who have their own houses of glass, do not throw stones on other’s. Adding to it, Kejriwal recently proved this when he tried to slam the Assam government but got hit hard instead.

Kejriwal’s baseless remarks

A recent Twitter spat broke out between the two Chief Ministers of Delhi and Assam. During this micro-blogging fight, Delhi CM criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the technique of handling the education system. However, by indulging in baseless remarks, Kejriwal got nailed to his own coffin.

In an attempt by Kejriwal to compare the education system of Delhi with that of Assam, CM Sarma opined that both states cannot be compared because the two are completely different regions. He highlighted that while Delhi is a rich city-state and full of exposure, Assam is a much larger state with huge diversities and poorer economic conditions. Therefore, the schools of both states can’t be compared.

This started with an intention of spewing venom, while CM Kejriwal quoted a news report over the Assam government’s decision to close some schools over poor results after not a single student was able to pass the 10th exam. He tweeted, “Closing schools is not the solution. We just need to open many new schools all over the country. Instead of closing the school, improve the school and make education right.”

Assam CM’s befitting reply to Kejriwal

While responding to allegations of Kejriwal, CM Sarma said that while the government is shutting down some poor performing schools, it has also built up many new schools during his tenure as education minister and further as a Chief Minsiter. Giving a brief summary about new schools that has been developed, Himanata Biswa Sarma asked the Delhi CM Kejriwal, “How many new schools Delhi Government has started in last 7 yrs?”

Briefing the core details, CM Sarma mentioned that 8610 new schools have been added to the counting of government schools in Assam. This also included 8391 private schools that were taken over by the government, and the rest are completely new set.

While lambasting Kejriwal over his underestimation of the state of Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Your ignorance is painful. Let me help you. Assam is 50 times bigger than Delhi! Our 44521 govt schools teach 65 lakh students- against your 1000+ odd schools. Our army of dedicated teachers number 2+ lakh; Midday meal workers 1.18 lakh. Fathom it?”

He further added that unlike Delhi, Assam has a lot more challenges to face, considering managing “fury of floods, dealt with militancy, negotiate hilly & tough terrains – and yet deliver high-quality education.” Sarma, putting out the ground reality over the micro-blogging platform, said, “See challenges we face. You’ll stop lecturing.”

Highlighting the development of Assam, Sarma said that the state imparts education in six mediums, which also includes 14 different tribal languages. He stated, “we do not have resources like that in Delhi. We’re proud of what we’ve and do!” Additionally, in the aftermath of inviting Kejriwal to visit Assam, Sarma said, “Our Medical Colleges are 1000 times better than your Mohalla Clinic.”

Delhi government’s education trap

It’s not the first time that the Delhi government is facing a backlash over its education model. There have been numerous instances where the claimed promises don’t match the ground reality of Delhi. Apparently, grabbing the first page in New York Times has given overconfidence to the muffler man’s team, but they cannot hide the true story.

As reported by TFI in April 2022, many parents criticized the Delhi government’s decision to allow private schools to raise their school fees. Many parents questioned the timing of this hike as they were already suffering from the after-effect of pandemic, majorly salary cuts. The situation escalated when parents protested against the fee hike.

The capital city is often appreciated for its deliverance of quality education. However, the expensive private schools hinder many kids from getting a quality education. Additionally, the preference of parents to enroll their child in Delhi government schools doesn’t seem to be promising anymore, nearly 80 per cent of schools have no headmasters to look after their day-to-day administration.

This ground reality clearly curtails the sugar-coated story being presented by the Delhi government. Apparently, NYT also got trapped under this façade without trying to dig deeper.

Apart from the education system, the Aam Aadmi Party, under its supremo Arvind Kejriwal, has continuously contributed to the downgrading of the capital city. While on one hand, its ministers are getting jailed under money laundering and corruption charges, on the other hand, their liquor policy is under scrutiny.

It’s high time for the Delhiites to realise their current state of dilapidatedness. To put it simply, it is evident that the dirty closet of Arvind Kejriwal is gradually getting exposed and in the future will be harder for him to sustain clean slate.
