Deverakonda’s unsolicited aggression, a horrible product, and Boycott Campaign is equal to Toothless LIGER

The Supertech twin towers in Noida, which were taller than the Qutub Minar, were razed to the ground at 2:30 PM on 28th of August. People were glued to their couches or office chairs only to watch the demolition of the twin towers. They were keenly interested in how the tower will be demolished.

Hilariously, if half of the people who watched the twin tower episode on their phones or televisions had watched Liger, it would have become a superhit or at least a hit. Unfortunately, it did not happen. As a consequence, the movie has turned out to be yet another disaster that Indian cinema witnessed this year.

Liger – A colossal flop

Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday starrer Liger was one of the most hyped and anticipated movies of this year. This Pan-India film Liger was helmed by South India’s one of the most talented directors, Puri Jagannadh. Liger is a story about an underdog boxer and his journey.

Ever since its release, people have been mocking the acting skills of Ananya Pandey, bashing the script, and the unnecessary addition of the plots which were not required. All these factors have contributed to the film in becoming the worst rated among the other films released in 2022.

Liger has been rated as 1.8 in the IMDB list. You might be surprised to know but Liger has even surpassed Shamshera, Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan and even Dobaaraa to be the worst one. While Laal Singh Chaddha has been rated 5, Raksha Bandhan is at 4.6 and Dobaaraa is at 2.9, Liger broke all the records and has been awarded with the title ‘worst film’.

Liger – A horrible product

Talking about the plot of the film, it is as horrible as the casting and the performances by some of the actors. The film revolves around Vijay Deverakonda, who is playing the titular role. Liger is an underdog with dreams to become an MMA champion. His stammering issue is the obstacle. Liger’s mother, played by Ramya krishnan, stands by his side throughout the film. His romantic relationship with Ananya Panday looks like a deliberate attempt to create a love angle in the film.

Vijay Deverakonda’s performance in the film is outstanding. No other actor could have performed the role with such perfection. He puts everything he had into the movie. The physical transformation and the character development are simply incredible.

However, as the film proceeds, we realise that Ananya Pandey’s character is nauseating. She fails to impress despite her struggles to do so. As a mother, Ramya Krishnan’s performance is disappointing. She did a poor job and it looked as if she is still not over with her character ‘Shivgami’ played in the movie Bahubali.

The lack of emotions, no depth in the story and half-baked romantic relationship with Ananya Pandey are what led the film to be disappointing.

Deverakonda’s unsolicited aggression

You see, twitter, these days, is occupied with the trends like #BoycottBollywood, #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha and #BoycottLiger. Not only the Twitterati but the media and entertainment industry too have been talking about this trend every now and then.

When Actor Deverakonda was asked about this trend on social media, he had said ‘kaun rokenge dekh lenge (we will see who will stop us)’. Vijay also said that “With Liger we expected a bit of drama…but we’ll fight. We’ve put our heart into making this film. And I believe that I am correct. I feel that there is no room for fear, when I had nothing, I didn’t fear, and now after having achieved something, I don’t think there needs to be any fear even now. Maa ka aashirwaad hai, Logon ka pyaar hai, Bhagwaan ka haath hai, andar aag hai, Kaun rokenge dekh lenge (We have mother’s blessings, people’s love, God’s support, a fire inside us, we will see who will stop us)!”

The actor also faced the ire of netizens for supporting Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. He, to criticise the Boycott trend, said, “When you decide to boycott a film, you are not only affecting Aamir Khan, you are affecting thousands of families who lose work and livelihoods.”

While speaking with the media, he said, “I just think on a film set, other than the actor, director, and actress, there are many other important characters, there are 200-300 actors working on a film and all of us have staff members, so a film gives employment to many people and is a source of livelihoods for many. When Aamir Khan Sir makes a Laal Singh Chaddha, it is his name that stars in the film, but there are 2000-3000 families that are being provided for. When you decide to boycott a film, you are not only affecting Aamir Khan, you are affecting thousands of families who lose work and livelihoods.”

Boycott trend on the rise

Given the failure of the films like Samrat Prithviraj, Jug Jug Jeeyo, and Gangubai Kathiawadi, it is being speculated that Bollywood is on the verge of collapse. The downfall, however, had begun with hardly two Hindi films performing decently at the box office. One of the prominent reasons behind the downfall of Bollywood is the filmmaker’s idea to compromise the content to appeal to the audience with propaganda, Hinduphobia, lavish sets, costumes, and exotic locations.

Another reason that has contributed towards the downfall of the Indian cinema this year is the Boycott trend. People have had enough of the anti-Hindu, anti-Indian and propaganda content. Thus, they resorted to a weapon called Twitter. They used Twitter to its full capacity to lead a war against Bollywood.

In order to teach the ‘Urduwood’ industry a lesson, the netizens started boycotting the films. It is only because of this trend that the films like Laal Singh Chaddha, Dobaara, Shamshera and even Rakshabandhan have fallen flat at the box office. This trend also came to bite the film ‘Liger’.  Vijay Deverakonda’s aggression and the film being a project of Dharma productions led it to be boycotted by the people.

You see, there were many factors that made Liger an all-time disaster. Deverakonda is new to the Hindi film industry and is a talented actor. Rather than being involved in such controversies, he should focus on his work and career. Only this can save his future as an actor.
