Dear Ajit Doval, interfaith meetings are cute and all, but what PFI really needs is a boot

India PFI

There is a fundamental problem with self-righteous people. They fail to crush the evil in the bud. In their kind hearted acts they forgive their enemies at a time when they are on their knees (weakest). Samrat Prithviraj Chouhan did the same. He forgave Mohammad Gauri seventeen times rather than coming hard on the barbarian hordes. This humane trait of forgiveness has always cost Indian civilisation dearly.

The self-righteous people forget a basic fact that evil only understands the language of power and punishment. Apparently, it seems that the National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has overlooked this fact. The government at the moment seems to act in a reactive manner to extremist organisations. It is failing to comprehend the extent of communal rot and the scarcity of options in tackling these ‘terror/anti-national organisations’.

Are interfaith meets just a sham?

On Saturday, 30th July, NSA Ajit Doval attended an interfaith meeting. The meeting garnered praise for trying to achieve an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the society. The All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC), an attendee of the meet, sought a ban on organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI) that indulge in anti-national activities. The council also criticised communal and vengeful slogans like ‘Sar Tan Se Juda‘. It said that these slogans are anti-Islamic. It also said that there is a Taliban thought that should be countered on the ground instead of in closed rooms.

But with some new developments, it seems that the basic purpose of that meet has been defeated  Apparently, the interfaith meeting is back in the news for a completely contrasting reason. Maulana Salman Nadwi, an attendee of the meet, has taken a complete U-turn. A video is going viral in which Maulana Nadwi has marred the resolution of the interfaith meet. In the video he can be seen praising the extremist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI). Further, he rejected the proposal of banning the Islamic organisation PFI. He sermoned that it is not right to ban a complete organisation for the criminalities of a few individuals. He went on to say that PFI and other Jamats work for social welfare.

Nothing unusual – Terror sympathiser sympathising with PFI

However, it is important to note that the Maulana who is giving clean shit to PFI himself has a shoddy track record. Maulana Salman Nadwi is the same notorious Malauna who heaped praises on ISIS. The shameless bigoted Maulana is an unapologetic bigot who congratulated dreaded terrorist Al Baghdadi on becoming a caliph. Back then, he had expressed his excitement at the establishment of ISIS caliphate.

Further, he had in past suggested that terrorists should not be referred to as terrorists. According to him, terrorists engage in a “noble cause’’. He also called for a “confederation’’ of all jihadi organisations. With that they could transform themselves into a single “powerful global force”.

No matter how good the intention of NSA Ajit Doval may be but attendees like these communal bigots defeat the purpose of such interfaith meetings. There can be no justification for the alleged criminalities PFI had committed so far. Further, ‘terror’ organisation like PFI or its political front Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) should be dealt with under stringent laws like Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) no less.

Don’t kid glove a “terrorist organisation”, instead crush them

The Popular Front of India is the prime suspect for the rampant radicalisation in India. It is claimed to be the main mastermind and industrial machinery responsible for communal riots in India. The investigation in the anti-Hindu Delhi riot clearly implicates PFI as one of the main conspirator. It is also accused of stroking fire in the Bengaluru riots. The list of its bigoted communal violence is endless. Not just that, it is also accused of carrying out forceful conversions at an industrial scale, land grab/Jihad and other criminal activites.

There is a mountain of evidence against the PFI. Additionally, there is enough precedent for such a ban. PFI’s ideological parent Student Islamic Movement in India (SIMI) was banned for its anti-national, communal and terrorist activities. Furthermore, Jharkhand and other state governments in the past have banned it for these criminalities. Hence it is time for the state government to not pull its punches and work on a war footing against such an anti-national bigoted organisation accused of multitude of criminalities.

India needs to implement the stringent Zero-tolerance policy against terror on the internal front as well. Country’s firm stand for Pakistan that terror and talks can’t continue together has resulted in a major success in averting acts of terror. The same needs to be adopted against bigoted extremist organisation like Popular Front of India (PFI).

There is no need for NSA Ajit Doval to hold such meetings seeking resolution to ban PFI. Such issues concerning national security are not decided on the tables of such meetings rather than on hard ground intel, which only points in one direction, banning the PFI. The Enforcement Directorate is already probing their sources of funding; it is time for other law enforcement agencies to crack down hard on them. After all, it is the language of stick not carrot which brought Pakistan to its knees. Similarly, sweet talks or interfaith resolutions on PFI won’t cut it, the extremist Islamic group only deserves to be booted out of society and thrown behind bars.
