As Sisodia braves CBI’s batons, Assam court torpedoes him with a summon

Just like other leftists’ political leaders, Delhi’s deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has now developed a habit to stay at the centre of controversies. Whether it’s CBI or any other investigation agency, Manish Sisodia is gradually attaining a vast swathe of scrutiny. From facing the CBI probe to the recent Assam Court summon, Delhi’s deputy CM is impregnating his image in almost every investigation agency.

It was recently reported that Assam’s Kamrup district court has summoned Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia, in a criminal defamation case, which was filed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, Kamrup in Guwahati, Assam has asked Manish Sisodia to appear on September 29 in connection with the said case.

Looking at the background, it can be noted that during a press conference in Delhi on June 4, Manish Sisodia alleged that the Assam government had given contracts to the firm of Himanata Sarma’s wife to supply PPE kits above market rates during the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.

However, Chief Minister Sarma and his wife denied all the allegations. Assam’s CM said that his wife did not take a single penny for the supplying of PPE kits. She donated those to the state health department as there was a scarcity of PPE kits during that time. In addition, Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma opined that in the first week of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, “not a single PPE kit was available in Assam.” And taking its cognizance, she reached out to a business acquaintance and delivered around 1,500 PPE kits to NHM-Assam “with a lot of effort”.

Following this in July, Himanta Biswa Sarma filed a defamation suit under Sections 499 (makes or publishes any imputation), 500 (Punishment for defamation) and 501(Printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of Indian Penal Code against Sisodia for statements alleging malpractice by Assam’s CM while giving a contract for supply of PPE kits.

Apart from this, Sarma’s wife Riniki Sarma filed a civil defamation suit worth Rs.100 crore against Manish Sisodia in the court of civil judge at Kamrup Metropolitan district Assam.

Sisodia under recurrent scrutiny

After looking at the current dynamics of Sisodia’s controversial cases, it is pertinent to note that it’s not the first time that Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister is under scrutiny. There have been various cases strengthening strict probes against him.

As recently reported by TFI, the CBI raided 31 locations in Delhi including the official residence of Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The probe was carried out in connection with the Excise policy 2021-2022. The FIR lodged under the case presented Sisodia as the number one accused.

These raids also coincided with the recent publishing of an article in the New York Times about Delhi’s education system. The art piece mentioned the manner the Delhi government has improved its schools. Being the capital’s Education Minister, it included Manish Sisodia as well.
However, on the other hand, it was considered a publicity stunt, which is provable. It was claimed that the publication received a payment to run the article on the front page. Thus, it raised a need for speculation.

To put it simply, it is apparent that Manish Sisodia enjoys being under the spectrum of speculation. Whether it’s about the liquor policy or the recent defamation case relating to PPE kits, Sisodia has been a light of almost every controversy surrounding the Delhi government.

Sisodia’s doom in near

Considering the dynamics of the current Indian political stature, at least one thing is certain it’s hard to find loyalists in politics. However, Kejriwal got luckily over this, he found Manish Sisodia. It is because even after achieving the leading party’s offer, he stood for the muffler man. However, retaining this position will be a little uncertain for him considering the dilapidated state of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sisodia is no different from AAP, which tends to first create anarchy and further give people the fake sympathy to solve it once they are elected. But Democracy and Anarchy can’t go hand-in-hand. It’s payback time for Sisodia.

Provably, Manish Sisodia’s countdown to doom has begun. Slowly and gradually, the noose around him is getting tighter. The near future is clearing the clout for Sisodia’s backlash. Although, he is braving various allegations, but the recent Assam courts’ summon has once again left Delhi’s Education Minister worried.
