Politicians have earned disrepute of making fake promises and for being a hypocrite. Their words and promises don’t match with their actions on the ground. The AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal made tall hefty promises to the voters of Punjab. His prominent poll promises included stringent control over the prevalent plague of drugs in the state, making the economy fiscally prudent, Corruption free environment and establishing rule of law in the state. On all these accounts the AAP government seems to be failing miserably. But worst among all, the state is suffering from the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Politics tramples ‘Rule of Law’
India has suffered tremendously at the hands of appeasement politics. The same seems to be the case in Punjab. The AAP state government is being accused of gross incompetence as well as morally or otherwise supporting anarchic acts in Punjab. Revenge killings, organised crimes, gang wars and murders are becoming prevalent in the Bhagwant Mann regime.

These inactions have emboldened the confidence of criminals in the state. The audacity of the criminals can be judged from the bare fact that even the big names are being targeted without giving it a second thought.
Apparently, AAP’s Malerkotla councillor Mohammad Akbar Bholi was assassinated by two unknown assailants in broad daylight on Sunday, 31st July. He was shot at from close range. He succumbed to his bullet injury.

AAP councillor Md Akbar was killed inside a gym run by him. The act of murder was caught on CCTV camera yet the two killers fled from the crime scene. Police officials said that they are making all efforts in tracing the assailants. Police in its preliminary finding said that it seems to be a case of personal enmity.

In the video of the incident, it could be seen that Akbar was going towards an unidentified man in the gym. When he was close enough to the assailant, one unmasked assailant took his revolver and shot at him.
Akbar Bholi won the municipal seat on Congress ticket in Feb 2021. But within a year he jumped ship to AAP for a better prospect. He became the first-time councillor on the AAP ticket from Malerkotla, which is the only Muslim-dominated assembly constituency in the state. In January 2020, his elder brother Mohammad Anwar was also shot dead who was a Congress councillor back then.
Lawlessness in the state
Since the formation of Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab, the state is witnessing turbulent times. The controversial singer and Congress politician Sidhu Moosewala was killed just a day after Bhagwant Mann’s controversial decision to withdraw security to VIPs. The move was to score political brownie points in the name of ending VIP culture which boomerang on the CM. The Punjab and Haryana High Court lambasted the state and ordered to reinstate the security of persons who are under imminent threats, as per Intelligence inputs.

Apart from that, in Ludhiana, a youth was shot inside his car. He was later found out dead. The dismal fate is not only for the citizens. The anarchic situation has endangered security officials as well. In one incident, the criminals had taken the life of a police officer.
Earlier, a Rocket propelled grenade (RPG) was fired at the intelligence Wing headquarters of Punjab Police in Mohali. The banned terrorist group Sikh for Justice (SFJ) took responsibility of this attack.
The assassination of Sidhu Moosewala brought the active gang war to the fore. It also shed light on the gun culture prevalent in the state. All these are signs of worsening law and order situation in the state. If things are not handled as strictly as it should be it could spiral into anarchic troubles and complete failure of the state machinery.
Epitome of Worse governance model
The debt on the state is shooting up and the economy is in doldrums. The menace of drugs is going unabated. In its short stint rule AAP is facing taints of Corruption. A chargesheet has been filed against former Health Minister Vijay Singla in Corruption case. Farmers are facing the brunt of apathy of the Punjab government. The Khalistani sentiments are straining the social fabric of the state.

All of this is happening because of either the criminal negligence of the Punjab government or its overt support to it to gain political benefit. But in all cases it is the voters of Punjab who are paying heavy price for falling in the trap of Arvind Kejriwal’s fake promises.
