Kamal Hassan was born on November 7, 1954. He is an Indian actor, director, dancer, writer, lyricist, playback singer, choreographer, screenwriter, makeup artist, and politician best known for his work in Tamil cinema. In 2004, Hassan received the first Abraham Kovoor National Award for his secular and humanist activities.

He was a project ambassador for Hridayaragam 2010, an orphanage for HIV/AIDS-affected children.

In September 2010, Hassan established a cancer relief fund for children and distributed roses to cancer patients at Sri Ramachandra University in Porur, Chennai.

He has donated his product endorsement earnings to charitable organizations. Hassan and his partner Gautami won 500,000 on Neengalum Vellalar.

Hassan was born in a Tamil Iyengar family on November 7, 1954, to D. Srinivasan, a lawyer and freedom fighter, and Rajalakshmi, a housewife.

Hassan was given the name Parthasarathy at first. Later, his father changed his name to Kamal Hassan. He has two brothers, Charuhasan (born 1930) and Chandrahasan (born 1936).

Nalini Hassan (born 1946) is a classical dancer. He received his primary education in Paramakudi before moving to Madras (now Chennai) to follow in his brothers’ footsteps.

Hassan continued his education in Santhome, Madras, and was drawn to film and fine arts by his father’s encouragement.
