USCIRF flashed the religious freedom card again, got slammed by India

The United States of America is known as the leader of the ‘free world’. America is very rich and thus, it publishes a dystopian paper every single year to fulfil its agenda that has always been targeting India in general and Hindus in specific. However, India no more succumbs to the pressure; rather this is the new India that is bold enough to give it back to the West in the language they understand.

There are many international organisations in the world, however, most of them are influenced by the supposed superpowers, the West. After them are the organisations that have been established by the Western countries within their boundaries. One such organisation is USCIRF (US Commission on International Religious Freedom), that is currently on an anti-India mission. However, after its recent attempt to flash the religious freedom card, it received a befitting response from India’s External affairs ministry.

US resorts to the USCIRF rant

On Saturday, the USCIRF official twitter handle had quoted its Commissioner David Curry’s concerns on the “repression” of critical voices. The tweet states that the commission is ‘concerned about the India government’s continued repression of critical voices- especially minorities and those reporting on and advocating for them.’

Another tweet by the handle reiterated the rant of designating India as a “country of particular concern,” as earlier suggested by its report to the Biden administration.

In June this year, USCIRF through a report suggested the Biden administration to name India along with China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and 11 other countries as “Country of Particular Concern” over the status of religious freedom. However, India had rejected the view and had stated that US had no locus standi in assessing global religious freedom.

USCIRF gets thrashed by Jaishankar’s ministry

The Indian External Affairs came down heavily on the US commission for its statements of “repression” in India, and claimed that the commission lacks basic understanding of the constitutional framework of India and its plurality.

India has categorically dismissed the comments by the US commission expressing ‘concerns over the actions of government authorities’. India called the statements ‘biased and inaccurate’.

EAM spokesperson Arindam Bagchi thrashed the US commission for misrepresenting facts in it statements and called the reports in ‘persuance of its motivated agenda.’

Bagchi in his statement said, “We have seen the biased and inaccurate comments on India by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). These comments reflect a severe lack of understanding of India and its constitutional framework, its plurality and its democratic ethos.”

Bagchi even advised the US commission that “such actions of misrepresenting facts time and again only strengthens concerns about the credibility and objectivity of the organisation.”

Dear US, stop dictating India

India had also rejected the criticism against it in the US department report of religious freedom, saying it is unfortunate that “vote bank politics” is being practised in International relations.

Not to forget, EAM Jaishankar had ridiculed the US when it tried to flag the human rights card right in their country. US even faced humiliation, as despite several attempts it could not bring India on its side concerning the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

However, it is the US, and despite various drubbing it has received in the recent past by Indian officials, it is not ready to limit its role and stop making assessments about other countries in the world, especially India. India no longer takes dictations from the supposed superpowers.

The same US that has been unsuccessful in controlling racially and ethnically motivated attacks, hate crimes and gun violence has no moral authority to speak on a country like India and must communicate this with its organisations too.
