The vitriol against Rishi Sunak once again reveals the “civility” of Britain

PM Sunak

The West can be often seen busy taking moral high ground and lecturing the developing nations on fundamental rights, religious minorities, or simply to say civility. However, it just took one incident for the Brits to loose their civility.

Rishi Sunak, who is of an Indian origin, after outsmarting arrogant UK PM Boris Johnson, is all set to become the next PM of the United Kingdom. The way the nation has opened their arsenal for the Indian origin leader, exposes the Brits and their values.

Rishi Sunak, soon to be the next UK PM

The former Finance Minister to UK PM Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak has cemented his lead over his rivals to become the next prime minister of Britain. He has already seized a lead in the first two rounds of voting.

The 42 year old MP, has worked as analyst at several hedge funds and investment. Rishi was elected as a Conservative MP from Richmond in 2015, and had supported Brexit in 2016. He was reelected in 2017, after which he became a junior minister under the then PM Theresa May. In 2019, he supported Johnson’s bid for the PM post. Sunak was later named as the exchequer in 2020 in a cabinet reshuffle.

Sunak subjected to racist onslaught

It was the Indian origin Rishi Sunak who opened his arsenal against Johnson, and Johnson was ultimately forced to resign after mass rebellion by his colleagues. That was the time when the entire lobby that marched after Sunak witnessed a racist onslaught.

As soon as Sunak announced his bid to become the next PM, attacks were bombarded upon him, with many consisting racist undertones. Sunak, despite receiving the most votes by MPs in the earlier rounds, may face several hardships. As a poll of Tory members reveal that Penny Mordaunt is the clear favourite. The reports suggest, that Sunak may be subjected to bias as the MPs are ready for a female PM for a third time, but not for a non-white PM. And, this sums up all the racism Sunak has been exposed too.

Not only this, Sunak along with Suella Braverman were also subjected to top racist onslaught, and the ones targeting them came from all sides; right, left and centre. Sunak has faced the heat for his immigrant background like holding a US green card, tax avoidance and his wealth.

Some of the comments came from verified twitter handles. One of them was the journalist Allison Person from Daily Telegraph. She said, “In the middle of the worst cost of living crisis for 40 years in the Conservative party seriously going to pick a man with a billionaire wife as PM? Electoral suicide!”

Barrister Jo Maugham tweeted, “Do you think the members of your party are ready to select a brown man, Rishi?” However, he later deleted the tweet after it went viral.

The independent even went ahead to run a story titled “Suella Braverman as our next PM? Be afraid, be very afraid”. In the article journalist Sunny Hundal wrote, “She would be Boris Johnson on steroids, a brown, female version of Trump…”

The dirty closet opened against the Indian-origin MP has exposed the British, and how civilised they are. The ones who have ruled the world, the ones who give lectures on morals are the ones targeting a potential PM for his colour.
