Taapsee proves it yet again; Bollywood has a serious allergy with casting

Mithali Raj Modi

Not many can claim to have a legacy that transcends their enviable records and exploits on the field. However, for one, Mithali Raj is not your ordinary cricketer. She fashioned an entire generation that grew up watching her play, idolized her, and dreamt of playing with her. Recently, she had reached a show along with Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu to promote her upcoming film ‘Shabaash Mithu’ which is based on the life Mithali Raj. What transpired later depicts that the Bollywood has a serious allergy with casting.

Mithali Raj praised PM Modi and Tapsee Pannu remained mum

During the promotion of the upcoming film based on the life of Mithali Raj on Sony TV’s reality show ‘Superstar Singer 2’, the former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 56-second video clip of the show is doing rounds on social media.

Mithali Raj, when asked about how she felt after meeting the Prime Minister of our country Narendra Modi, answered, “When we came back after the 2017 World Cup. At that time, the way our reception took place at the airport and our respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave us time. He recognized each girl by name. Answered every girl’s question.”

Mithali then got emotional saying, “We liked it very much that the Prime Minister of our country took time to meet the national team. Encouraged us even though we lost in the final. He told us that even after losing you have won the hearts of many people of the country. The PM gave respect to the players despite the loss, it inspires all of us.”

What caught the attention of the public were the reactions of Tapsee Pannu and how she remained silent. For those unversed, Tapsee, on multiple occasions, has criticised PM Modi and the BJP government.

PM Modi’s letter to Mithali Raj

It is pertinent to note that PM Modi had written to Mithali Raj to congratulate her on a glorious career in international cricket when she had announced her retirement from international cricket on June 8.

“Mithali Raj Ji, A few weeks ago, you announced your retirement from all formats of cricket, leaving fans very disheartened. First and foremost, I join crores of Indians in congratulating you on an extremely successful career, in which you made the nation proud throughout,” said PM Modi in his letter.

“You have served Indian cricket for over two decades. You are blessed with the necessary talent, tenacity and transformative edge needed to excel over the years. This zeal has not only helped you, but also inspired several other budding sportspersons,” he added.

Bollywood and the casting issue

Inspired by the life of former India cricket captain Jhulan Goswami, the film titled Chakda Xpress will soon release on digital streaming platform Netflix. However, the announcement video for the film released on Thursday showed a short glimpse of Anushka playing Jhulan. Anushka can be seen donning an Indian Cricket jersey in the Netflix Original Chakda Xpress.

Isn’t it strange that Anushka, despite having merely any feature fitting perfectly with the role, has been cast for playing a Bengali cricketer? Interestingly, the actress supposedly has been cast as she is married to a cricketer, that is, Virat Kohli.  However, the decision has emerged as huge bizarre as the unpleasant bronze look of Anushka with a nauseating Bengali accent will lead the movie to become a huge flop.

Moreover, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan also turned out to be bizarre, and all thanks to Akshay Kumar who was completely a misfit for the character. His appearance in Smrat Prithviraj Chauhan was exactly similar to that of his character Bala in Housefull 4.

Be it Mary Kom, Bala, and many others, Bollywood’s obsession with poor casting have been witnessed in multiple films. Now with Tapsee, an anti-Modi liberal, playing Mithali Raj supports the claim that Bollywood is completely incapable when it comes to casting the apt protagonist.
