Taapsee is officially the queen of flops, but still, there is no dearth of work for her

Shabaash Mithu

It takes luck to survive in the Indian entertainment industry. While there are many artists who fail to grab the eyeballs despite their talent and hard work, there is an endless list of those who manage to stay relevant in the industry even after giving multiple flops. Taapsee Pannu falls in the second category. Ever since her entry into the entertainment world, she has given more flops than hits. Despite this, there is no dearth of work for her.

Shabaash Mithu deserves no shabaashi for its collection

It was only a few days back when Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Shabaash Mithu’ was released in the theatres. Based on the life and achievements of retired cricketing icon Mithali Raj, Shabaash Mithu was made on a budget of ₹ 30 crores. However, the efforts didn’t come to fruition as even after lakhs of coverage and promotions, this film managed to earn only 40 lakhs on its opening day and only 2 crores in the whole week.

According to reports, the Raj biopic managed to collect just ₹ 4,280 on Day 8 across India. Interestingly, Pannu has been blamed for the failure of the film and her performance in the film is one of the reasons for the below-average box-office collection, several stood in the actress’ support.

The never-ending list of flops by Taapsee

It is true that Taapsee’s contribution when it comes to countering male dominance in Indian films is immense. She has always impressed the audience as an actress. Neither her acting skills are overwhelming nor is she the finest actress in Bollywood. She performs well and I would say, better than many of the star kids.

Now, ask yourself a question – when was the last time Taapsee gave a superhit film on her own? If the records are to be believed, Mission Mangal was her last film which not only received a positive response from the critics but also managed to earn a good amount of money. However, Mission Mangal was a multi-starrer film starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in the lead.

Beginning with Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Mulk’ which garnered a lot of critical acclaim, the cinemagoers rejected the film and as a consequence, it was a flop. Coming to Manmarziyaan, the film was loved by the cinemagoers and the reason, unfortunately, was not Taapsee but Abhishek Bachchan’s surprising performance.

Wait, what? This is just the beginning. The list goes on and on. Taapsee also seems to have been ‘blessed’ with Medusa’s touch. If there’s any recipe that you need for preparing a dish called ‘flop films’ the main ingredient would be Taapsee. ‘Haseen Dilruba’, ‘Looop Lapeta’, ‘Rashmi Rocket’ and Shabaash Mithu are prime examples of the same.

Though Thappad and Saand ki Aankh were praised by the critics for their brave stories and portrayal of characters, it cannot be denied that their lifetime collection was below 30 crores which falls into the category of flops. None of her films except Pink and Mission Mangal were successful.

Interestingly, despite giving poor results continuously, there is no dearth of work for her. She has multiple projects in her bag which will release this year or may be, next year at the box-office. She will be seen in Dobara, Blur, Alien, Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, and even in Raj Kumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

Why Pannu is still in the industry

If you are a Bollywood keeda (buff) or are aware of the actors of the 80s and 90s, you must have heard of the actors named Somi Ali, Kamal Sadanah, Avinash Wadhawan, and Anjali Jatthar. They were fine actors and were seen in multiple films. Somi Ali has worked opposite the superstars of Bollywood including Suniel Shetty, Saif Ali Khan, Mithun Chakraborty and Dharmendra. She is also the ex-girlfriend of Salman Khan. However, nothing could save her career and she was ousted by the industry soon.

Similar was the case with Kamal Sadanah, Avinash Wadhawan, and Anjali Jatthar. All of these actors were talented and were seen in multiple films. Despite their talent, they couldn’t survive in the industry.

Taapsee Pannu is no different. Of course, she is a fine actor but the box-office is all about money. Even if it is not, why the hypocrisy? If the above stars were ousted only because they couldn’t give hits to the box office, why Taapsee Pannu is still here making it big?

Well, ask yourself.
