Rohit Ranjan Arrest: Parties should learn from Congress how to ‘rule’

Rohit Ranjan arrest

Since 2014, the Bhartiya Janata Party is ruling the Indian subcontinent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm of affairs. Though the left-liberal cabal is often busy documenting the ‘tyrannical rule’ of PM Modi, today I am going to make an expose. That is, PM Modi and the BJP government are unaware of the power that lies in their hands and their powers are getting wasted. Even, though the Congress party would have been better at the helm of affairs, at least they are better at misusing the power, whether to spread anarchy through state machinery or further mute the voices of people by using the ultimate power.

Great Power comes with Great Responsibility. But the Congress party seems to be unaware of the infamous quote, and therefore it only focuses on the former, smartly sidelining the onus of responsibility on it, and the community that has faced the utmost wrath of the dynast party is the journalists’ community. Congress and its leaders are aware of the power and are a pro at using it for brushing the truth under the carpet. And the tyranny recently unfolded in the Rohit Ranjan case which stands in deposition for the aforementioned statement.

Congress goes offensive against Rohit Ranjan

The Congress party has just one master that is the Gandhis and the loyal Congressis can go to any extent to protect the interests of the Gandhi family and not the political party. This is seen many times, the recent being the widespread protests by the Congress ‘netas’ during ED investigation.

Once again, the Congress has gone all offensive not to protect the sinking party but to shield the Gandhi scion; Rahul Gandhi. The Congress party had filed complaint against media channel ZEE Hindustan anchor Rohit Ranjan for running a ‘doctored video of Rahul Gandhi’. The news report presented former Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s comments on SFI vandalism in Wayanad, Kerala, to look like remarks condoning and forgiving the killers of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur.

Rohit Ranjan Arrest

Though the channel issued a public apology and withdrew the content from the platform, the Congress leaders are not ready to take a step back and resorted to their old habit of using the state machinery to fulfil their personal agenda and directed the Chattisgarh state police to arrest the journalist Rohit Ranjan.

High voltage drama unfolded when Chattisgarh Police of CM Bhupesh Baghel reached at the gate of journalist Rohit Ranjan at his Ghaziabad residence on Tuesday with an non-bailable warrant. However, he was arrested by the Gautam Budh Nagar Police, which later released him on Tuesday night on bail, the investigation is underway.

What does the whole incident depict, Arrest of a journalist? Umm, not exactly. This unveils the age old habit of Congress party of controlling and curbing freedom of speech.

Congress’ identity- muzzling freedom of speech

The Congress party is all but over and that has been proved in the repeated drubbing it has been receiving in the electoral battles across states. However, with governments in states like Chattisgarh and Rajasthan, the Congress is leaving no stone unturned to remind the janta of the Emergency period. On the other side of the political spectrum is the Bhartiya Janata Party that is in power in majority of the state, and is still unable to do such miracles.

The Congress rule can be identified by its nature of muzzling freedom of speech, and the tyranny is not only limited to the the Emergency period, but has its presence in the 21st century as well. A Raipur based journalist was arrested in March this year for writing political satires which were critical of the Congress government of Chhattisgarh.

Freedom of Press has not been explicitly mentioned in the Indian constitution. However, the Indian constitution marks the freedom of an individual and press’ right of expression as equal. The Congress should come out of its colonial mindset and should learn from the BJP, how to take criticism and accept the voice of truth and dissent and get better by working accordingly. Though this happens in a party that is based on cadre structure, it is too naïve of us to expect something of this sort from a party that has only one purpose that is serving the Nehru-Gandhi family.
