“Muslims have the first right on the resources” – Manmohan’s philosophy is resurrected by Gujarat Congress

Abraham Lincoln beautifully summarised the meaning of Democracy. Democracy is ‘of the people, by the people and for the people’. But that is plain wrong according to the “saviours” of democracy, Congress. It has time and time again hit a new low in demeaning democratic values. It is neck deep in appeasement politics; be it the idea of communal violence bill or crying foul on gunning down of terrorists in the garb of civilians. From the top echelons of the party, continuous voices have been raised that are plain communal in nature. It seems as if for Congress, ‘Muslims’ are the sun around which their politics revolve. This rejected and deplorable philosophy has been reiterated by the Congress.

‘Appeasement’ is the core ideology of Congress

India has suffered a lot at the hands of nasty appeasement politics. For political benefits, political parties drafted schemes and policies while keeping Muslims at the centre of it. Parties kept ignoring the rights and needs of the majority of the Indians, particularly Hindus, and took them for a toss.

Congress, with its leftist allies twisted politics, History, Culture, religious rights and freedom of speech, tries to appease the Muslim community. But after 2014, its appeasement politics has badly backfired. It didn’t get a wakeup call from  AK Antony’s report on failures of Congress. It is hell bent to prove its loyalty to the community more than parties like AIMIM, IUML or AIUDF, which are solely committed to that communal cause.

This core ideology of Muslim appeasement has been rekindled by the Gujarat Congress. State unit President Jagdish Thakor reiterated that Congress has not changed its ideology and it never will. He audaciously made the same comment that was made by the then PM Dr Manmohan Singh. While addressing a gathering of the Minority community, he stressed that “Muslims have the first right on the resources”.

He said,” I state with confidence that Congress never makes changes in its ideology and never makes a difference in its thoughts. It holds its thoughts when it gets power and Congress didn’t make compromises in its thoughts even when it was uprooted from power. The Prime Minister of the country (Dr Manmohan Singh) used to state that there is the first right of minorities on the treasury of the country. It was stated by the country’s Congress Prime Minister from the peak of power boldly. Congress knows how much damage happened due to that statement. Congress will not make a compromise in its ideology even if such damage happens thousand times.”

He clearly states in his statement that it has been rejected by the people of India and cost dearly for the Congress party. Yet, he arrogantly promises to pursue it head-on. It is important to note that elections are due in the state. The party is not in its prime political shape and leaders are jumping the sinking ship of Congress. At such a crucial time, such statements are nothing but shooting their own foot. These statements reflect that the party is politically bankrupt. For them everything starts and ends at appeasement politics.

It is interesting to note that Congress had just recently appointed such a ‘communal’ man as their state working President. It seems that it deliberately wants to polarise the atmosphere before the state elections. Gujarat Working President, Jagdish Thakor, further went on to advocate for a separate election manifesto for the minority communities.

BJP leaders vehemently opposed this appeasement tactics of the Congress party. They lambasted Congress for making such communal demands. BJP National Spokesperson, Shehzad Poonewala, made a tweet highlighting the difference between the styles functioning of BJP and Congress party.

Reiterations of such abhorrent philosophy will only be catalyst to the destruction of the Congress. India has moved past tokenism and politics of caste, religion and ethnicity. Such communal demands of separate election manifesto, premium rights over resources, etc. would only earn them disrepute and put them in the likes of Morley, Minto (who introduced communal electorate in 1909) or the bigoted Muslim parties like IUML, AIMIM, AIUDF or extremist organisations like Popular Front of India (PFI).
