Media and the ‘intellectual’ people working in the field know what kind of impact media has, and how the influence of media and presentation of its reports affects the public mind as well as the public discourse and thus they seek to benefit from the same.
Media today is the agenda setter of society. The media doesn’t give you an issue to think about and form your own opinion, rather it feeds you with what you should think about the issue. Well, the naïve readers/viewers may be unaware of this, we will here unveil Time Magazine’s innumerable attempts of agenda-setting in context with India and its politics.
Time Magazine: A repeat offender
Liberal elites who are no more acceptable to the nationalist Indians, due to their anti-India narrative have found a new shelter that is foreign media. The renowned foreign media which used to dictate the terms to India during the Congress Raj is furious due to India’s changed mode of operation. And hence, the foreign media cartel has resorted to humiliating India in general and Hindus in specific, with Time Magazine leading the charge.
Be it publishing pathetic articles about the Modi government or accusing a movie based on the exodus of Hindus ‘The Kashmir Files’ of ‘promoting bigotry’. It was Time Magazine which tried to prepare an anti-Modi ground before the 2019 general elections and even went on to call the Prime Minister of a nation, “Divider-in-chief”. However, with the exit-polls the line of Time Magazine changed too.
Time Magazine is up again with another dystopian report
The publication seems to have a phobia of PM Modi, and it has a seething hatred for India and Hindus. While its fascination for Islamists knows no bounds. And the recent report in which the publication called the slogan ‘Hindu Lives Matter’ a “dangerous slogan” stands in deposition for the same.
In the article published by Time reporter Sanya Mansoor, not only the severity of the murder of Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal was downplayed, but she also tried to peddle her agenda of ‘Muslim victimhood’. For the publication and its reporter, the beheading of a Hindu tailor is less crucial. The greater cause of concern is the supposed ‘chilling calls of revenge’ against the so called ‘marginalised’ Muslim population of India. While peddling their anti-Hindu agenda, the publication however swiftly saves itself from speaking anything on threat calls propagated by Islamists like “Sar tan se juda”.
Hindu Lives Matter reflect the dilemma Hindus are caught in
Hindus are currently caught in a dilemma. The Hindu community which is facing severe threat, neither can demand protection from the state nor can they defend themselves reason being they are the non-violent community and if they start doing so, the propaganda of calling the majority violent will gain legitimacy.
So, what option is left for the Hindus, to unite as a community, spread awareness among themselves and raise their voice against oppression. With the same agenda, slogans like ‘Hindu lives matter’ started trending on internet. This can be associated with the slogan, ‘Black Lives Matter’, that erupted after the death of George Floyd. Calling for protection of the Blacks, in no way advocated for any sentiment against the whites. In the same manner, the lives of Hindus are important too, they too have the right to live, the Hindus also have family waiting back at home, and these sentiments were accumulated in one slogan that is ‘Hindu Lives Matter’. But in fascination for Islamists, the Time Magazine even fails to understand this.
