Dhakad is an exception, Kangana Ranaut is far from over

Kangana Ranaut Emergency

Remember when Katrina Kaif, in the movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan, said, “Har ishq ka ek waqt hota hai.” Well, the dialogue was far far away from my understanding, but I rather believe that “Har success aur failure Ka waqt hota hai.” It needs to be noted that one flop movie cannot depict the end of any artist’s career.  Dhaakad alone cannot decide the fate of Kangana Ranaut, as the actress is far from over and the recent teaser of her upcoming film Emergency is proof of the same.

Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’

On Thursday, 14 July, Kangana Ranaut shared the first teaser of her next directorial, Emergency, in which she can be seen playing the role of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film is co-written by Kangana and is a biographical drama inspired by the real life of India’s first female Prime Minister. Directed and co-written by Kangana Ranaut herself, the film Emergency has been produced under the actor’s banner, Manikarnika Films.

The actor, sharing the first clip, wrote, “Presenting ‘Her’ who was called ‘Sir’ #Emergency shoot begins.”

The teaser begins with a man standing in a gigantic office and is on a phone call. Soon, he approaches a woman and asks her if President Nixon can refer to her as ‘Madam.’

Then, Kangana’s looks as Indira Gandhi is revealed in the teaser. Believe me, when I say that Kangana inhabited the skin of the politician. The teaser moves forward with Kangana replying to the man “America ke president ko keh dena, ki mujhe mere daftar mein sab ‘madam’ nahin, ‘sir’ kehte hain,” (Tell the President of America, that people in my office don’t refer to me as ‘madam’. They call me ‘Sir’).

From Kangana’s prosthetics and make-up to her attire, all of it completely resembles Indira Gandhi.

While speaking about her film Emergency, Kangana Ranaut shared, “Emergency reflects one the most important periods in Indian political history which changed the way we view power and that’s why I decided to tell this story. Moreover, playing a public figure on screen is always a challenge because one has to get the look, the characteristics and the persona right. I spent a significant amount of time researching the subject and once I felt I had enough ammunition, I commenced the film’s shoot.”

Kangana will bounce back harder

Kangana Ranaut is an exceptionally talented actress in Bollywood who not only made a place in the industry that doesn’t welcome outsiders but also raised her voice against all the odds existing in the industry and the whole of Maharashtra.

Form Gangster in 2006, till recently released Dhaakad, Kangana has given 32 films in her 17-year-long career. While her journey was no lesser than what we call having a roller coaster of a life, but the way she has emerged as a true actor and artist needs no introduction.

Tanu Weds Manu, Raaz: the mystery continues and films like ‘Queen’ beautifully define what a talented actress she is. Kangana Ranaut’s last release was Dhaakad which was released on 20 May. It turned out to be a huge disaster and sold only 20 tickets on the eighth day of its release and earned Rs 4,420.

The total budget of Dhakad was reportedly Rs 100 crore, but it could collect only Rs 3 crore, adding to Kangana’s long streak of box-office disappointments.

Dhaakad which featured Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee has received criticism, and has been dumped by the audience.

Witnessing the flop that Dhaakad was, there were multiple articles written against Kangana and her career. Her films that performed exceptionally were forgotten while spewing venoms against her. People also forgot how she had made a comeback with Queen after multiple flops and the success of Queen is an example for others to learn from.

The haters hate her less for her films and acting career but more for her ideology. Dhaakad is an exception and for a talented artist like Kangana, it cannot affect her career at all. Kangana is far from over.
