The dynamics of the world are changing, which is perennial for development. In the same context, various powers of the world are gradually adopting the phenomenon of green energy. India, being one such country, is all set to become the next superpower in the green energy sector with the new announcements of the Adani group.
Adani in green energy
Recently, a new development has energised the green energy sector. On 26 July, Gautam Adani addressed the annual shareholders’ meet of Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the group. During the event, he announced the recent investment of Adani Group worth $70 billion in green energy transition and infrastructure projects. This came with his calling of “reshaping India’s energy footprint in an extraordinary way.”
While calling this move evidence of confidence, he said, “We are already one of the world’s largest developers of solar power. Our strength in renewables will empower us enormously in the effort to make green hydrogen the fuel of the future.”
In addition, he also portrayed the Adani Group as a syndicate achieving incessant milestones in almost every sector. He spoke about becoming the largest airport operator in India. Apart from this, he recognized the company’s efforts in building India’s infrastructure by procuring some of the largest road contracts and growing its market share in businesses such as ports, logistics, transmission and distribution.
Interestingly, since 2014, India has experienced exemplary growth in renewable energy capacity. From scaling 71,789 megawatts of capacity in 2014, the figures upsurged to a huge number of 147,122 megawatts. These figures are further believed to achieve another milestone with the recent investment of the Adani Group.

Green energy is a rising phenomenon
In today’s world, when pollution has put the lives of the global community under threat, it is very important to reduce the carbon footprint. Though the fossil fuels are more efficient, but they can’t be the prime source of energy forever. Derived from natural resources, green energy is renewable and clean, which means that it emits no or very little greenhouse gases and is often readily available.
Focusing on the growth of renewable energy, it’s not the first time that India is strengthening its green energy ecosystem. As reported by TFI earlier, Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) had announced an investment of around US$ 50 billion in green hydrogen energy over 10 years. The deal of Adani will create the world’s largest green energy ecosystem to cut reliance on fossil fuels and achieve net-zero carbon emission targets.
However practically looking , the responsibility for changing the climate should fall on what we term as ‘developed’ world. Additionally, since many countries were developing, they could not impose strict control on emissions and adapt to Green Energy. That is why they required additional funds. For this purpose, as reported by TFI, it was decided to contribute to an explicit Green Climate Fund. Under the fund, countries, especially the developed ones pledged to contribute $100 billion on annual basis.

The west will soon be done and dusted
It is pertinent to note here that Western countries are continuously holding supremacy over green energy production. In the United States, since 2019, wind power has been the largest producer of renewable electricity. On the other hand, its total renewable electricity generation was recorded at 43.2 percent in the year 2020.
Considering the 2021 list of leading countries in installed renewable energy capacity, the US ranks second after China, scaling to 325 gigawatt capacity. Though it is evident that the West dominates the renewable energy sector, India will soon be backlashing the West.
After all, some sleepy Joe, who relies on a teleprompter for his speeches, cannot show India its power. Rather, the world’s largest democracy carries a far better capability to show a harsh reality mirror to the “intellectual President”.
India has time and again given strong competition to the world’s superpowers. This time too, it is fully prepared and equipped with its strategies of giving back to the west. Adding to that, the recent move of Gautam Adani will shape India to become the next superpower of green energy in no time.
