Sarath Kumar established the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) political party in Tamil Nadu in 2007, professing to uphold K. Kamaraj’s values. Ramanathan and Pushpaleela, a Tamil couple, welcomed R. Sarathkumar into the world on July 14, 1954 in New Delhi. His mother Pushpaleela was a stay-at-home mom, while his father Ramanathan formerly worked at All India Radio before joining the Press Information Bureau of India.

The youngest of his two siblings, Sarathkumar is the late Sudarshan Ramanathan’s older brother and Mallika Kandaswamy’s older sister. Pushpaleela, his mother, passed away on October 26, 2013.

When Sarathkumar’s family moved from Delhi to Chennai, he began attending the Raja Muthiah High School. He continued his education at St. Patrick’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School before transferring to the Central School at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Sarath Kumar had guest appearances in Pennin Manathai Thottu and Super Good Films’ Maayi in 2000. Despite the controversy, Maayi was a hit at the box office, according to one reviewer who said, “Sarathkumar makes a mark in the title role of a very underplayed character.”
