There was a time when Varun Gandhi was a blue-eyed guy in the saffron party. He was known for not mincing his words and great oratory skills. But many a times he was accused of going overboard, hurting sentiments of certain communities and giving speeches with communal overtones. This put the party to cut him to size and put the possibilities of making him a Minister on the back burner. Since then, he has been cynical of anything and everything to grab back the attention and claim credit as a victim of the party’s hardships.
What’s new talk in the town?
By now you must have understood all the pros and cons of the new recruitment scheme ‘Agnipath’ for the Tri Services. The government and Armed Forces have termed it a ‘necessary reform’ to reduce the average age from the current 32 years to 26 years. Additionally all the grievances of the aspirants and future prospects of the ‘Agniveers’ are being solidified, certain vested interests are fueling these apprehensions and reaping political benefits out of it. Then how come the rebel leader within Feroze Varun Gandhi be silent.
He has come out ferociously against the scheme and his own party. In a slew of tweets he has termed the protest as a right enshrined in the constitution but forgot the fact that in the garb of protest, anti-social elements are indulging in arson and torching public properties.
pic.twitter.com/DB6FlvfgLI

In an attempt to score political brownie points he has made a new ‘promise’. But it would have been better if he had acted on it instead of just sloganeering.
He said, “If the ‘rashtra rakshakas’ don’t have the right to pension, then I am also ready to give up my own pension. Can’t we MLAs/MPs give up our pension and ensure that Agniveers get pension?”

A leader is one who acts on his words. So if he really means those words he should motivate others through his acts rather than sweet talk.
Let’s cash Anti-Modi sentiments
Many politicians, media persons and celebrities have made a career out of anti-Modi sentiments. For gaining followers and attention they just indulge in mud slinging and criticising anything that the Modi government does. He seems to be working on the same strategy and wants to project himself as the victim of political conspiracies.
As early as 2014, he started to oppose the party line and didn’t seem enthusiastic for then Gujarat CM Modi’s candidature for the post of Prime Minister. He refrained from attacking his brother Rahul and aunt Sonia Gandhi. When the opposition was cornering the BJP government over Rohith Vemula’s case he took a contrary stand to the party. Similarly, he indirectly supported the cancellation of death sentence for convicted terrorist Yaqoob Menon.

The UP assembly elections proved a catalyst for his actions. His dreams of becoming the CM of Uttar Pradesh shattered when the party chose Yogi Adityanath to lead the state. Since then, Varun Gandhi, the face of ‘Hindutva’ has been seen supporting illegal entry of Rohingya Muslims. His motto of my way or the highway was visible in the so-called Farm protests as well. He targeted the Modi administration for the ruckus created by pro-Khalistani groups.
This cynical opposition of each and everything vindicates the fact that he is working tirelessly to be thrown out of the party to claim as a crusader against the all powerful Modi government. So that he becomes a strong pillar in politics and revive his deteriorating political career.
