The Sonia Gandhi connection of Teesta Setalvad must be probed

Teesta Setalvad connection

For the last three days, a name is being widely discussed throughout the political corridor. While PM Modi has been given a clean chit in the Gujarat riots 2002 case, she has been detained by the police for fabricating false evidence and lying through her teeth to make a career out of riots. By now, you must have guessed who I am talking about. Yes, I am talking about Teesta Setalvad.

The newly emerged report is hinting toward a new connection of Teesta Setalvad which should be probed immediately.

After the Supreme Court upheld the decision of SIT to give a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the Gujarat riots case of 2002, the so-called social activist Teesta Setalvad was detained over the charges of forgery and criminal conspiracy. Honourable Court categorically stated that Teesta has been vindictive against PM Modi. In the judgement, the apex Court stated, “Antecedents of Teesta Setalvad need to be reckoned with and also because she has been vindicively persecuting this lis [dispute] for her ulterior design by exploiting the emotions and sentiments of Zakia Jafri, the real victim of the circumstances.”

Sambit Patra puts up valid questions

The BJP, on Saturday, on the basis of the Supreme Court’s comments against Teesta, alleged that the Congress and its president Sonia Gandhi were the “driving force” behind her campaign against then chief minister Narendra Modi.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra informed that “the apex court had named Setalvad while blasting those responsible for keeping the “pot boiling” for their ulterior designs on the riots.”

“The court had said that all those involved in the abuse of process need to be in the dock,” he added.

The BJP spokesperson said “the Congress-led UPA government, especially its education ministry, had given Rs 1.4 crore to an NGO run by Setalvad, and this money was used to run campaign against Modi and also to “defame” India.”

“She was not alone. Who was the driving force? Sonia Gandhi and the Congress party,” he said.

“Was the kind of lies and corruption she was responsible for possible without the government’s support?” he asked.

Setalvad and her crimes

For those unaware, Zakia Jafri, who had filed the petition claiming that a larger conspiracy behind the riots was there, had the support of Teesta’s NGO. Teesta Setalvad has been the lynchpin of everything wrong with the perception of PM Modi. She had used PM Modi and Gujarat riots for her pecuniary gains. Reportedly, Ms Setalvad has been charged under the Section 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), Section 471 (using as genuine a forged document), Section 194 (providing or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of capital offence), Section 211 (false charge of offence made with intent to injure), Section 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture), and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The 10-page FIR cites observations from the Supreme Court verdict delivered on June 24 which read, “At the end of the day, it appears to us that a coalesced effort of the disgruntled officials of the State of Gujarat along with others was to create sensation by making revelations which were false to their own knowledge. The falsity of their claims had been fully exposed by the SIT after a thorough investigation.”

Given the heinous crimes committed by Teesta Setalvad and the opposition’s hate against PM Modi, the Sonia Gandhi connection should be probed. It is necessary to find out if there’s any involvement of the Congress party to frame PM Modi and the saffron party. PM Modi had to suffer for 20 long years and those behind the conspiracy should be meted the treatment they deserve.
