Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is a traditional dancer and actress from the south of India. She has appeared in a number of Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam films. Malayalam and Kannada
Alongside Mammootty, she made her acting debut in the 2000 Malayalam film Arayannangalude Veedu, which earned her the Kerala State Film Award for best-supporting actress. For her roles in Thaniye, directed by young director Babu Thiruvalla, and Paradesi, directed by P. T. Kunju Mohammed, Lakshmi once more won the Kerala State Film Award for second best actress in 2007. She also won the “Atlas Film Critics Award” for the best female actor for the same movie.
In 2010, she was cast opposite South Indian actor Vishnuvardhan in the P. Vasu-directed film Aptharakshaka. She played a dancer who was possessed by an evil spirit in this Kannada movie, and both reviewers and moviegoers loved her performance.
The movie went on to become a huge hit and played in theaters for 35 weeks straight; it was Vishnuvardhan’s final Kannada film. She also appeared in Vishnuvardhan movies like Namyajamanru and Vishnu Sena. In a recent interview, Lakshmi discussed the film’s success “I am happy with the kind of feedback the audience is giving me about how I performed in it. With this film, my wish to work with Vishnuji once more has been realized.”
Her native Kannada film industry extended offers to her as a result of her success in Malayalam cinema.

Lakshmi Gopalaswamy was born to M. K. Gopalaswamy and Dr. Uma Gopalaswamy in Bangalore, Karnataka, into a Kannada household. Arjun, her younger brother, is her. Lakshmi’s mother, a music expert, encouraged her to study and pursue a career in Bharatanatyam.
