The dark days for Hindus and Hinduism seem to be never ending in the Kashmir valley. After routing out the majority of the Kashmiri Hindus from the valley, fanatic Islamists are not even leaving the holy sites of Hinduism. The Kashmir Valley which had earlier witnessed glorious rituals and traditions of Hinduism has been constantly witnessing gory attacks on Mandirs. Sadly, the barbaric incident repeated again in the intervening night of 4/5 June in Doda district of Kashmir.
Vasuki Nag Mandir vandalised
The much talked about phrase in the context of Kashmir – Kashmiriyat, Jamhuriyat and Insaniyat seems to be only on paper. In reality, the ground situation paints a completely contrasting picture, in which it doesn’t include Hindus or symbols depicting the glorious civilisation past of Hinduism. In a recent development the Vasuki Nag Mandir was vandalised by unknown Islamic miscreants in the dark hours of the day. As can be seen in pictures in the new reports, the Mandir has been vandalised from outside as well as inside and idols have been desecrated.

The Vasuki Nag Mandir Bhaderwah which is also known as Bhadrakashi, is owned by the Dharmarth Trust. The trustee of the Dharmarth Trust, Vikramaditya Singh, who is also the grandson of the last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, made a tweet regarding the same. He asked the citizens to exercise restraint and maintain communal harmony.
He said, “Received disturbing reports that Shri Vasuki Nag ji mandir, Kailash Kund, Bhaderwah has been vandalised by local miscreants. I have personally spoken to DC and SSP Doda to investigate the matter at the earliest & bring the culprits to justice”.

He added,“Vasuki Nag ji mandir is located in Kailash Kund at an altitude of 13,500ft. J&K Dharmarth Trust along with the local Hindu samitis escort the annual Kailash Yatra to the temple. I appeal to the public to exercise restraint & maintain communal harmony”.

Several Hindu outfits protected against these atrocious attacks on Mandirs. Some of the protesters held placards with “Stop Hindu Temple Vandalising” written on it. They demanded stringent actions on these miscreants and stopping these incessant attacks on Hindu Mandirs. Meanwhile, the Police has lodged an FIR against unidentified people at Bhadarwah Police station and the incident is being probed to ascertain the facts and find the culprits behind this attack on Hindu Mandir.

The Kashmir Valley which once was a centre for spiritual awakening and knowledge for ages seems to have completely become intolerant towards Hinduism. The scale and magnitude of attacks on Hindus and symbols of Hinduism like Mandirs and holy shrines paints a similar picture of the 1990s when the natural inhabitants were routed out from Kashmir and an ethnic cleansing was carried out against them. These attacks also highlight that the authorities must follow Zero-tolerance towards Islamic radicals and the culprits are served stringent punishment so as to set deterrence against such acts.
