Jaishankar gives peace of his mind to “expansionist China”

Ever since Xi Jinping came to power, China has started to believe that it will become the next America. Well, the fact of the matter is that in order to fulfil its expansionist dream, a country needs to first develop a strong bonhomie with those neighbours who could challenge it. The US first ensured that Canada does not trouble it much and then set out for rivalry with the world. But Jinping is different. He thinks that the world will listen to him only if his administration is able to bring India to its knees. Under PM Modi and EAM Jaishankar, that is never going to happen.

Dr Jaishankar warns China

In clear and unequivocal terms, India’s EAM has again warned the Chinese against making any one-sided move. During an event organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar emphasized how India has been giving reciprocal and measured treatment to its neighbours. To put it simply, EAM said that those have been good to India and its interests have been reciprocated in the same way and vice-versa.

Speaking about India’s security interests, Jaishankar explicitly stated that no country should dare to change anything on the border. Whatever understanding has been reached in the past should be accepted by both countries. Hinting that India will retort with counterattacking measures if

the agreement is not followed, Jaishankar said, “Our borders also need safeguarding and we’ll never accept any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo. A posture that departs from established understandings will evoke its own responses.”

Jaishankar took the opportunity to thank those partners who have always stood by India. Stating that the country is no longer a slave to its history, Jaishankar said, “When it comes to security, we’ll do what it takes to ensure national well-being. I acknowledge the role of trusted partners who work to help keep India safe and secure every day. We’ve overcome the hesitations of history and won’t allow anyone a veto on our choices,”

The issue at hand

Jaishankar’s statement came in the wake of the Chinese trying to develop infrastructure along the India-China border. Currently, both countries are involved in a bitter border dispute. India is constantly nudging China to respect the Line of Actual Control (LAC), while China continues to push back against it. The border dispute reached its peak when China tried to take advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic by launching an offensive on the border in May 2020.

After the Galwan valley attack, a total of 15 rounds of negotiations have taken place between both countries. After the third round of meetings, both India and China had agreed to resolve the conflict in Galwan valley, Patrolling points 15(PP15), and PP17A. China did oblige to disengage from Galwan valley, but it has still not fulfilled its disengagement obligations in PP15 and PP17A.

Chinese aggression and India’s shrewd Counter

Moreover, the Western Theatre Command of PLA recently doubled down on its initiatives in the region. It recently constructed a bridge in the Pangong Tso area providing more manoeuvrability to Chinese troops in the region. The Chinese Army is also trying to build roads and residential units along the border.

On the other hand, as a countermeasure, India is also boosting infrastructure in the adjoining area. Moreover, to weaken the Chinese, India has led an all-around effort to curtail both the hard and soft powers of China. India’s Diplomatic and economic offences against China have resulted in old allies ditching China in favour of India. Recently, Charles A Flynn, US Army’s Pacific Commanding General took a clear stand against Chinese projects in the areas surrounding Indian borders.

China needs to be aware of India’s strength

China is a friendless country. It cannot boast of any country in the world which will come to its rescue in times of need. Those countries whom it calls friends are only victims of the paper dragon’s bully tactics. It is quite clear that given the chance to jump ship, these so-called allies will happily ditch the communist nation. This will be a tit for tat treatment meted out to China who has a habit of backstabbing its allies.

Given its friendless reputation, given its weakened economy, and given India’s increased strength, China needs to be wary of India. India WILL give a more fierce reply. EAM Jaishankar has made it crystal clear.
