For English county cricket team Gloucestershire Ramnaresh Sarwan signed In July 2005. Later on in the 2008 season of Indian Premier League he joined Kings XI Punjab.

In the year 2000 Sarwan debuted in international cricket in which match was played against Pakistan at Barbados. In that match he debuted as a 19-year-old young cricketer and made an unbeaten score of 95 runs in both the innings of that match.

During the period when he played for his team, West Indies was among one of the most competitive teams in cricket especially in the one-day format of the game. In the year 2004 they reached the finals of the Natwest series and become the winners of the coveted Champions Trophy.

In the year 2007 after the retirement of captain Brian Lara from the post in ICC World Cup he was selected as a captain of west indies cricket team.
