Google was fined $118 million for “Gender discrimination”

In the latest settlement deal between the plaintiff and Google, Google has agreed to pay $118 million of Pay Equity Class Action. The class-action gender discrimination lawsuit comprising 15500 women engineers and other employees was filed against Google in 2017 for the violation of California’s Equal Pay Act related to the underpayment of the female worker.

It was alleged that “google locks women into lower career tracks leading to less pay and lower bonuses compared to their male counterparts.” In addition to the monetary compensation, the settlement deals also provide for an independent third-party audit of Google’s hiring practices.

Most of the plaintiffs involved in the class suit were female software engineers of the company. Speaking on the settlement deal, Holly Pease, one of the plaintiffs of the lawsuit said that “as a woman who’s spent her entire career in the tech industry, I’m optimistic that the actions Google has agreed to take as part of this settlement will ensure more equity for women.”

Google assimilates the world’s knowledge but never read it

It is very strange that the company which is almost running a whole world through its services and dictating the terms of people’s digital presence is not able to digest the equal and equity principles. Google, the company which assimilates the world’s knowledge bans, is still lagging in ensuring inclusion and equity for women.

There have been dozens of similar lawsuits against global technology companies. The class-action gender discrimination lawsuit against the world’s leading tech companies including Microsoft, Twitter, and Apple. These companies are ruling the global information market and internally indulged in discrimination based on gender.

In the modern concept of economic justice, if a woman is denied equal pay similar to her male counterpart, nothing can be more shameful than this for a company like Google. Equal Pay Act provides that employers do not pay anyone less than the rates paid to employees of the opposite sex for similar work performed under similar conditions with similar skills.
