Surjewala goes rogue

Surjewala party

The endless saga of infighting and defections continues in Congress. This time the party loyalist Randeep Singh Surjewala is raising a voice of dissent within the party. The Grand old party in all decades has suffered massive defections and splits. Hence if the post holders, who are unelectable, too question the party on all issues, the party has to look inward at its dilapidated state or face defections again.

Haryana Congress: Implosions

In the latest bit, the party loyalists are miffed with the party. They are speaking or acting in a dissenting voice. At least two fractions can be seen in Haryana Congress. On one side is the Hooda camp and on the other is Kuldeep Bishnoi. The party’s three big state leaders Selja, Bishnoi and Surjewala were missing when the party was trying to show its strength.

It all started a week earlier when the central high command revamped the state’s Congress committee. They replaced the state party chief Selja and appointed Udai Bhan as the new head. Bhan is said to be a loyalist of the Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Randeep Singh Surjewala while addressing a press conference was asked about this rejig in the party. He came in support of a different candidate, Kuldeep Bishnoi, for the post and claimed that Bishnoi would have been the best state unit president but in the end, it is the party’s decision to choose the state unit chief. The supporters of the Bishnoi camp were very animated with the decision of not appointing Bishnoi as state unit head. Bishnoi did notice the anguish of his supporters and while addressing them, he said I too am ‘very angry‘ just like you but let’s have patience for a while.

The Moral Authority of Congress High Command is questionable

Congress has been constantly losing state and general assembly elections. The worst thing for the party is that it never does a thorough and pragmatic analysis of the defeat and doesn’t course correct. It only indulges in blame games, factionalism and carries on with ungrounded political issues. Moreover, the high command has neither been able to rally voters nor have they managed to stop the infighting.

Hence the party’s central high command has lost all persuasive power it earlier enjoyed. Now all the regional satraps within the party on a regular basis throw all the decisions of central authority into the dustbin.

The Grand Old Party has to shun this autocratic behaviour and smell the coffee. The High Command is powerless and has either forgotten all traits of politics or is ignoring it for the sake of saving its position. The High Command should run the party in a more democratic way and let the regional satraps have a say. Otherwise, they are already junking all the High Commands orders. So better involve them or prepare to be completely outcasted by their own party members.
