Is Netflix shedding its ‘Wokeism’ tag?

Netflix, a US-based OTT platform, was hoping to get a piece of the gigantic Indian OTT market but seems to have been rejected by the market itself. The biggest reason for the failure of Netflix can be attributed to its woke content. However, the platform seems to have learnt from its mistake and thus, is bidding adieu to ‘wokeism’.

Netflix rejects its woke employees

A new corporate culture memo has been issued by Netflix in an attempt to protect artistic expression. It has warned ‘wokes’ that those who are offended by the streaming service’s content may find a job somewhere else.

Variety reports that the change in Netflix’s company culture appears to be in large part due to the backlash the streaming service faced from woke employees last year over its Dave Chappelle special, which the employees claimed was transphobic.

In view of internal disagreement triggered by productions like Dave Chappelle’s controversial stand-up special, Netflix took the step of highlighting that the streaming giant values the “artistic expression” of its content creators over each employee’s personal thoughts, beliefs and lifestyles.

“As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values,” read the memo, titled “Netflix Culture — Seeking Excellence.”

“Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to be harmful,” the announcement continued. “If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.”

It is pertinent to note that the recent memo is Netflix’s answer to woke employees who have been complaining for about a year about comedian Dave Chappelle’s content. Reportedly, Chappelle cracked the jokes on the transgender community and many of the streaming service’s woke employees referred to the comedian’s work as transphobic.

Netflix’s inbuild wokeism

The American OTT platform hoped to carve out a market share for itself by appealing to the liberal community in India. Thus, followed Netflix woke tactics and promoted Hinduphobic content. The growing nationalist & civilizational consciousness has given a strong shock to the Hinduphobic & anti-cultured Urduwood industry. The back-to-back failure of big star’s movies has given a reflection lesson to Bollywood to stay away from the Hinduphobic content.

Netflix’s share price fell by 25% and it lost 2 lakh subscribers this quarter. Many online users are arguing the fall in shares and subscribers is related to its woke content like ‘He’s Expecting’.

Earlier as reported by TFI, many other young minds are being indoctrinated with the woke degenerative ideas by these woke companies. In the name of modernity, they were used as a tool to spread the leftist uncultured ideas & after earning money on their back, these companies are now discarding them and leaving them to fend for themselves.

Mass firing by Netflix

Netflix, suffering from a substantial loss, has started to lay off its employees to compensate for its weakening balance sheet. According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, In the latest round of cost-cutting exercises, the company has eliminated an undisclosed number of marketing-related jobs. The layoffs are a realization of the company’s decreasing clout in the streaming market which led to a decline in the value of its shares.

Moreover, Netflix’s story in India is a sorry one. It is anything but motivating. Such is Netflix’s condition in India that its top executives find the gigantic market ‘frustrating’. Netflix co-founder, president and co-CEO Reed Hastings said in an investor call on Thursday that the lack of success in the Indian market is “frustrating”. He, however, added that the company is “definitely leaning in there”.

You see, Netflix was losing the market and its stocks were declining dramatically. However, it has learnt the lesson from its mistakes and is thus, shedding its Wokeism tag.
