Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan is a famous man. One of the main orchestrators of the Shaheen Bagh protests and all the subsequent rioting that ensued in Delhi, Khan has been treading on thin ice for quite some time but the backing of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has propelled him to escalate his misdeeds. Khan has on several occasions proved that he is a threat to the delicate social fabric of the country. Amanatullah Khan had openly instigated the Muslim mobs prior to the anti-Hindu Delhi riots —so much so that the Delhi police had to register an FIR against him relating to arson, rioting, damage to government property, and obstructing the government’s work.
Expectedly, that was not Amanatullah Khan’s last brush with the law. Once again, the man has been detained by Delhi Police. This time, for instigating Islamist mobs in the national capital against the Delhi Municipal Corporation’s anti-encroachment drives.
Amanatullah Gets Taken In
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was detained by police while staging a protest in south Delhi’s Madanpur Khadar on Thursday. Khan reached the spot with his aides and hoodlums and started raising slogans against the BJP-run Municipal Corporation. Soon, his resource mobilisation led to clashes between the encroachers, Islamists and police.
Speaking to the media, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan said, “I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them (civic body) in demolition if there is any encroachment.” Despite the ruckus created by the Aam Aadmi Party MLA, authorities were able to pull down major encroachments in the area.

Amanatullah Had it Coming
Earlier, Amanatullah Khan and his aides created similar scenes in Shaheen Bagh. On Monday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation restarted its anti-encroachment drive in the Kalindi Kunj-Jamia Nagar area near Shaheen Bagh and Sriniwaspuri. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan came out openly in support of illegal encroachers and sat down with the people protesting against the anti-encroachment drive.
Subsequently, SDMC’s Central Zone licensing inspector filed a complaint against the AAP MLA and his aides with the SHO of Shaheen Bagh. In the complaint, the licensing inspector wrote, “Amanatullah Khan MLA (Okhla) along with his supporters present did not allow the field staff of the zone SDMC to remove the encroachment. In view of the above, you are requested to take appropriate legal action against Amanatullah Khan and his supporters for interfering in the discharge of official duties by public servants.”
Based on the complaint, Khan has been booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Amanatullah and Encroachers Go Long Back
In 2020, it was reported that Amanatullah Khan was leading the AAP government’s initiative to supply free ration to illegal Rohingya immigrants. These infiltrators have been grabbing land illegally all over Delhi-NCR.
Locals from Kalindi Kunj area of Delhi had alleged that such Rohingya immigrants were earlier living on a vacant plot of a Muslim leader in Kanchan Kunj, however, the 40 Rohingya homes were destroyed in the year 2018 in a fire incident. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan had then reportedly promised compensation of Rs. 25,000 for each family.
Amanatullah Khan had been stretching his luck for far too long. The law has finally started catching up to him, and his detention by Delhi Police will send a stringent message to all notorious political elements in the national capital to not hinder public work from being conducted by municipal authorities in the coming days.
