What is IITIIMShaadi.com?

Bollywood is going downhill because the industry is filled with Nepotism and Corruption. All the award shows are fake and many veteran actors like Ajay Devgan have no faith in their system. But, what is nepotism? According to Oxford Dictionary, Nepotism means, “The practice among those with power or influence of favouring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.”

To mock the common people, Bollywood has very craftily created the term ‘Outsider’ for people who are out of this Chain system as if they are coming from some Unknown ‘Outside’ realms. However, the debate on nepotism in Bollywood started with actress Kangana Ranaut’s comment on Karan Johar’s chat show in 2017.

She had called Director Karan Johar and the founder of Dharma Production the flag-bearer of nepotism. And, she wasn’t wrong. However, Karan Johar, despite being trolled for nepotism, seemingly has not learned from his mistake as he is back with yet another show that promotes elite culture and nepotism.

Karan Johar –the brand ambassador of IITIIMShaadi.com

Popular matrimonial platform IITIIMShaadi.com has made filmmaker Karan Johar it’s brand ambassador. Under the new collaboration, Karan will be the face of the company’s digital ad campaigns across digital media.  However, the first ad was launched on social media platforms a few days ago and it clearly depicts the nauseating idea to promote elite culture.

Sharing the advertisement, Karan said, “A matrimonial platform like no other – IITIIMShaadi.com! And I’m super excited to see some ‘real’ love come to life, not just reel. If you are looking for your life partner, https://www.iitiimshaadi.com/ should be your go-to site. They invite alumni of the top 10-15 colleges from all fields to register and find a match amongst each other (sic).”

Johar, in the Gurugram-based matrimonial platform IITIIMShaadi.com’s digital campaign, also says, “Hum Ek baar jeete hai, Ek baar marte hai. Aur shaadi bhi ek hi baar karte hai. Isiliye, bahot zaruri hai ki life partner ka decision correct ho. Aur yeh aasan nahi hai, especially for the highly-educated….”

A new idea to promote nepotism

If you go through the video, one thing you’ll realise is that the advertisement wrongly promotes the idea of nepotism. The first problem with the newly released ad is that it conveys a message that an IIT/IIM alumni will be mentally compatible exclusively with another IIT/IIM alumni. Another problem is that it promotes the idea to create offspring of intellect as same as the parents.

Also, the way it has been portrayed is that it is difficult for the highly-educated to make decisions about marriage, it somehow demeans those involved in other professions. Moreover, the idea that only IIT/IIM alumni could be the best partner for each other is nothing but nepotism.

It is pertinent to note that IITIIMShaadi.com was founded in 2014 by Taksh Gupta. If the platform’s claims are something to go by, it has more than 1.5 lakh members, not only from India but 50 other countries. What makes it different from other matrimonial sites is that its niche segment is that it authenticates each profile based on education.

The idea itself is wrong but Karan Johar’s association with the matrimonial site has made it worse, and, it is because of his past records to promote star kids and not providing opportunities to whom they say ‘outsiders’.
