Life is cyclical. That is what you will learn throughout your journey in life. Well, the statement goes well with Sidhu’s journey. He started his journey from the scratch and became a politician, comedian, commentator and lawmaker. A career profile that many of us wish for. However, life has come to a full circle for Ex Congress Punjab President Navjot Singh Sidhu and he has come back to the point where he had begun from.
A new leader of opposition for Punjab Congress
Ever since Sidhu was asked to resign from the post of Punjab Congress Chief, the speculations that he would continue as the prominent leader and leader of the opposition to be specific had set the political corridors abuzz. However, these speculations have come to an end with the appointment of 44-year old Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as the new president of Punjab Congress. Notably, MLA from the Gidderbaha assembly constituency has been awarded the position as he is considered close to Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, he is the only MLA to win the Malwa region.
For those unversed, Sidhu gave his resignation in the aftermath of his loss in the recent state assembly elections. He was asked to tender his resignation by the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi.

Apart from Amarinder Singh Raja, former Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa has been appointed as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the state assembly. Thus, he becomes the leader of the opposition in the assembly too. Partap is MLA from the Qadian assembly seat in the Majha region of the state and is now a five-time legislator.
Sidhu’s Pakistani friend too is in deep trouble
A nail-biting scenario in the political corridors of Pakistan must have troubled Sidhu. It is public knowledge that Sidhu shares a great bond with Pakistani PM Imran Khan.
MQM and the opposition have signed a draft to topple the Imran Khan government. According to reports, Shahbaz Sharif, the leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari are other key signatories of this agreement.
After the withdrawal of MQM, the Imran Khan-led government is left with only 164 seats in the national assembly. To form a government in Pakistan, a party or a coalition requires a minimum of 172 seats. With the MQM being on the opposition side, they now have 177 seats in total.
Since he does not want to face the no-trust motion in the parliament. A few days ago, Imran Khan had directed his party members to either abstain from voting or boycott the no-trust motion brought against him. It is also being speculated that he will resign outside the assembly.
The Pakistani Army was active throughout the night of Saturday-Sunday, while the Supreme Court of the Islamic country made sure that Imran Khan and his friends were locked up in jails if the no-confidence vote was not executed.

Sidhu keeps glorifying Pakistan in a bid to show his love for the country. Despite Pakistan’s support for Islamist terrorism, Sidhu has maintained a close friendship with the nation and Prime Minister Imran Khan. Thus, he had also advocated opening up orders with Pakistan.

Earlier as reported by TFI, in November 2021, while being greeted by a Pakistani official during the visit to a Gurdwara at Kartarpur Sahib, Navjot Singh asserted, “I request that if you want to change Punjab’s life, we should open the borders (for cross-border trade). Why should we go through Mundra Port, a total of 2100 kms? Why not from here, where it’s only 21 kms (to Pakistan).”
Sidhu had also stated, “I am honoured. Mera bada bhai hai, Usne bada pyar diya hai (He is my elder brother. He has given me a lot of love).”
You see, Sidhu and Imran Khan are mirror images of one another. While Sidhu opposed his own government to dethrone Amarinder Singh, Imran Khan has also resorted to demeaning his own country to stay in power. Now, both of them have been thrown out of power. And this makes us believe that a non-performing asset like Sidhu is not only a pariah in India but Pakistan too.x
