Remember the Nadia gang rape case of Bengal? The son of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat leader was arrested by the Nadia district police in connection with the rape of a teenage girl. The case, however, has revealed the true color of TMC as the CM of West Bengal assassinated the character of the victim instead of condemning the incident. Well, how could she speak against her own party’s member, right?
But Mamata’s stance towards the Nadia rape case is definitely an indication that she does not have the moral right to remain the CM of West Bengal.
It wasn’t rape but gangrape
Reportedly, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been handed the probe in the Nadia rape case. The investigation by the CBI revealed that at least three men had raped the girl on 4 April, as reported by The Print.
The CBI is probing the case on a Calcutta High Court order of 12 April. It arrested three more suspects on Sunday. Shockingly, the prime accused in the case is a Trinamool Congress gram panchayat member’s son Brajgopal Goalain. His friend Prabhakar Poddar was also arrested by the state police even before CBI started investigating the Nadia rape case.
If the sources are to be believed, the investigation agency reported on Monday that the Nadia rape case is being invested by CBI as one of “gang rape”.
Reportedly, investigation also revealed that the minor was intoxicated while she was being raped. Moreover, she had also consumed marijuana before the alleged rape. Afterwards, she was dumped on a road and was picked up by a woman on a scooty and dropped home.
Unfortunately, the girl couldn’t survive and died after a few hours of the crime who died hours after the crime.

14-year-old raped by TMC leader’s son
Reportedly, the minor girl who was raped by the TMC leader was a student of class 9th. However, locals informed the police that the girl and accused knew each other. If these statements are something to go by, the girl had gone to his residence to attend the birthday party and was forced to drink alcohol during the party.
According to the victim’s family, the girl had gone to the house of local Trinamool Congress leader and Garapota Gram Panchayat member, Samar, to attend a birthday party.
The mother of the minor informed that “Our daughter was bleeding profusely and had severe abdominal pain after she came back from the party and before we could take her to hospital, she died. From the sequence of events and after talking to the people present at the party, we are sure she was gangraped.”
The minor’s father filed a complaint invoking sections 375 (rape), 302 (murder), 204 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The family also claimed that the woman who dropped the victim home “threatened” them. The woman, however, is being questioned by the CBI.
Mamata Banerjee assassinated the character of minor
How do you think CM Mamata Banerjee would have reacted? No, she did not take any strict action against the criminal. Instead, she defended him by spitting garbage and accusing the victim herself. Despite being a woman and that too, holding the CM’s chair, Mamata Banerjee resorted to insensitive remarks to defend the criminal. Needless to say, the shameful act has been done by Mamata Banerjee only to prevent the image of the party which is already tarnished. Casting doubts over the details of the victim, she stated that she does not know whether the teenager was raped or was already pregnant.

While speaking at an event in Kolkata, Mamata said, “The girl was having an affair with the accused.” She added that opposition parties and media are making it an opportunity to give it a “political twist”.
“What happened is bad. I condemn it. But I have heard that the accused and girl were having a love affair. People in their neighbourhood knew. Their families knew. Everyone knew,…” she said.
“The incident is said to have taken place on April 5 and the FIR was registered on April 10. Why? From where will the police get evidence now?” She then looked at the DGP, asking him, “Am I right or wrong?”
Given these statements, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Mamata Banerjee does not deserve the CM chair. A CM of the state should never be allowed to make such remarks as it could have a negative impact on the society. What she should have done is to order for the proper investigation rather than defending an alleged rapist.
