Shawn Rhoden Biography and Career

Shawn Rhoden was a former Mr Olympia and IFBB professional bodybuilder of Jamaican and American descent. In 2018, Rhoden won the Olympia. The Mr Olympia competition is known as the Super Bowl of bodybuilding. At the age of 43, Rhoden defeated seven-time Olympia winner Phil Heath to become the oldest contestant to win the renowned championship.

Early career

Shawn Rhoden was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and grew up to be a highly active young man who enjoyed playing soccer and cricket whenever he could. He was, however, underweight for his age and began to dislike his appearance.

In 1990, Shawn and his family immigrated to the United States. Shawn needed to find something to cling to when he was thrown into the unknown without any companions, and he discovered his passion for bodybuilding.

At the age of 17, the future IFBB Pro’s passion in bodybuilding had grown, and he began working out in the gym to increase size and strength. Shawn’s fitness career began at this point, in 1992.

Shawn Rhoden joined his first competition at the age of 21 – the 1996 National Eastern Classic in New Jersey – after years of intensive training. Shawn was able to win the prize thanks to Yohhnie Shambouger’s skilled assistance.

Flexatron, on the other hand, did not have everything going for them. In the same year, he suffered a back injury that forced him to sit out for six months.

Shawn wasted little time after recuperating from his back injury, returning to the gym and competing in the 1997 Mid-Atlantic National Bodybuilding Championship. Shawn made a tremendous comeback, winning the Posers Award for his stage performance and placing second overall.

Mr Olympia Show

Shawn Rhoden finished 11th in the Mr Olympia the following year, but he was only getting started. Flexatron competed in a number of high-profile competitions from 2012 to 2016, including placing third in the 2014 and 2015 Mr Olympia.

Shawn’s greatest triumph came in 2016, when he was 41 years old and finished second in a hotly contested Mr Olympia competition.
