Stephen Paul Fleming ONZM (born 1 April 1973) is a New Zealand cricket coach and former captain of the New Zealand national side. He is currently the head coach of the Indian Premier League’s Chennai Super Kings. He is regarded as one of the best batsman in the history of New Zealand cricket. Stephen Fleming is New Zealand’s second-most capped Test player with 111 matches, and is known for his keen tactical ability. He is also the country’s most experienced and successful captain, having led the team to 28 triumphs including Test series victories over India, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
He was the winning captain of the ICC KnockOut Trophy in 2000, New Zealand’s lone ICC trophy in the ODI format to date. In 2005, Fleming led New Zealand to victory in the world’s first Twenty20 International, which was contested against Australia.

After being forbidden from participating in the tournament for two seasons, he resumed his duties as head coach of the Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 Indian Premier League season on January 19, 2018. During this time, he was the coach of the Rising Pune Supergiant.

Stephen Fleming is the son of Gary Kirk and Pauline Fleming. Pauline raised him as a single mother, and he did not see his father until he was 16, despite Kirk’s constant interest in his son’s development. Kirk and Fleming both captained Cashmere High’s first XV and played senior rugby.
Fleming married his long-term partner Kelly Payne in a wedding in Wellington on May 9, 2007. In 2006, the couple welcomed a girl, and in 2008, a son. He had to return to New Zealand just before the IPL semi finals to give birth to his second child.

Stephen Fleming, a left-handed batsman, made his Test debut against India in March 1994, collecting 92 runs and receiving Man of the Match. When he was arrested and admitted to consuming marijuana with colleagues Matthew Hart and Dion Nash while on tour at their hotel in 1995, he avoided scandal.
He made his first Test century in the First Test at Auckland during England’s 1996–97 tour of New Zealand. He took up the captaincy from Lee Germon in the third Test of the tour, becoming New Zealand’s youngest captain at 23 years and 321 days.
