Rajamouli directed RRR breaks records
Recently, a movie named RRR starring NTR Jr, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgan was released. Within two days of its first commercial screening, the 400 crore budget movie has recovered around 90 percent of its total expenses. However, what is striking about this movie is that it’s one of those rare films in which audience is watching it because their curiosity is oriented towards the director.

The director of the movie is SS Rajamouli. Currently, he is the finest filmmaker in India. He is also naively referred to as Christopher Nolan of India for brilliantly narrating the cultural underpinnings of society by using technology. From the last one and a half decade, Rajamoulli has established himself as the premier mind in Indian cinema.

Rajamouli had decent start to his career
Right from his childhood, it became clear to people that Rajamouli is cut out for the film industry. His father K. V. Vijayendra Prasad is also an acclaimed filmmaker. Similarly, he has three cousins namely M. M. Keeravani, Kalyani Malik and M. M. Srilekha to brainstorm about varying aspects of the filmmaking business.
Rajamouli gained subtlety by directing TV serials in the beginning of his career. Being a quick learner, he soon transformed into a maverick and was able to bag a project starring superstar Jr. NTR in 2001. For the next five years, he kept grounded in movies like Simhadri, Sye (starring Genelia D’souza). The movie Sye is particularly remarkable for Rajamouli’s courage, as he risked his rising career for introducing a new approach in movie making.
Rowdy Rathode and Magadheera
Rajamouli’s first claim to fame came with the movie Vikramarkudu in 2006. The film starring Ravi Teja became a blockbuster hit and was later remade in various languages. In Hindi, it was produced as the Akshay Kumar starrer Rowdy Rathode. In 2009, Rajamouli produced Magadheera with Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal as lead roles.
The assimilation of culture and technology made it one of the highest grossing Telugu films of its time. He was awarded with Nandi Award for Best Director and Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu for the film. The film also won the National Film Award for Best Choreography. It was one of those movies which introduced the might of South Indian movies to the Indian audience.
Baahubali series and critical appraise
Rajamouli’s claim to ultimate fame came with the Baahubali series. First part of the series became the highest grossing Indian film of all time within India. Normally, Indian directors have a habit of disappointing the fans in the sequels. But, Rajamouli is in another league, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion brought him more laurels, including fame, critical appraisal from cinema lovers located all around the world.

TFI founder Atul Mishra had opined, “Not many directors can get the lead killed by a loveable supporting actor and get away with it. But SS Rajamouli achieves this feat with matchless élan. Apart from answering this question, Bahubali 2 seamlessly connects the wounding and escaping of Sivagami Devi and answers why she feels obligated to deliver the child? So, one can safely say that Rajamouli was in complete command of his characters and story while ending the first part on a cliffhanger.”

Rajamouli is an atheist, but not as they show in Bollywood
It seems impossible to believe that Rajamouli calls himself an atheist. I mean look at the themes of his movies, the man has an explicitly clear tilt towards Dharma, the most civilizational stabilizing aspect of human lives.
In fact, in the past, Rajamouli has clearly stated that the artwork and storylines in his films derive their inspirations from archetypal themes stored in Ramayan and Mahabharat.
For Rajamouli, Bhakti is not just following something or someone blindly. It is implicit subservience to higher authorities. Rajamouli believes that Bhakti is one of the strongest emotions in human beings. This is the main reason why Superhumans in his movies are also shown dedicated to one form of Bhagwan or another. It is in stark contradiction to Bollywood.
In Bollywood, if the main character has achieved something extraordinary in his life, then he/she is shown to be someone who does not even care about the deity. Most of you must remember Amitabh Bachchan of Deewar. The man had achieved everything and was constantly in ire with the Bhagwan. It’s pertinent to note that he was shown to be subservient to Allah.
