Uttarakhand: Politics of the hill state

The state of Uttarakhand has seen the BJP and Congress coming to power every alternate election since the formation of the state. Hence, it will be more interesting to know, will the trend of power shuffling continue, or will Congress make a comeback, or the ruling BJP will retain power this time?

Exit polls predicted a hung assembly

The political parties had raised their guards after watching the exit polls, as most of them predicted that neither Congress nor BJP will get the majority. ABP-CVoter exit polls even predicted that Congress has an edge in the state. The majority of exit polls predicted a neck-to-neck fight between BJP and Congress. Today’s Chanakya gave the BJP 43 seats and Congress 24 seats, whereas the Jan Ki Bat polls predicted the saffron party to gain 32-41 seats and 27-35 seats for Congress.

The political parties with their top-notch leaders in the state were ready to ‘manage’ the situation in case of the arrival of a fractured mandate. However, the trends say a different tale.

BJP to get a clear majority in Uttarakhand

The elections trends are in no way synchronous with the exit polls. According to the current trends, the BJP has won 15 seats and is currently leading on 32 whereas the Congress has won only 4 and is currently leading on 15 seats.

In the Garhwal region, BJP is all set to grab the majority of seats. The Tarai region has been an undefeatable bastion of the saffron party. The politically volatile state of Uttarakhand seems to be in the mood of saffron rule once again and the trend clearly establishes that the exit polls and the political pundits favouring both the parties were so wrong.

The Bhartiya Janta Party is all set to register a spectacular victory in the hill state.
