When India was mourning the Pulwama martyrs, Sonam Kapoor was celebrating valentine’s day in Pakistan

Sonam Kapoor is no novice to controversies. From comparing the medieval and Arabic costume of hijab, burqa and niqab with a Sikh turban – despite being a Sikh herself, to supporting ideas like puberty blockers and ‘gender-neutral toilets’ for children – Sonam has done it all.  Now, she has gone a step further by reportedly spending Valentine’s Day with her husband, Anand Ahuja in Pakistan. This, on a day when India remembered the 40 brave CRPF jawans who were killed in a Pakistan-sponsored terror attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama in 2019. She even allegedly tweeted from Pakistan to wish her husband a happy Valentine’s Day.

Sonam Kapoor’s Valentine’s Day in Pakistan

Sonam Kapoor tweeted “Happy 💕 day. Nothing more important then 💗 @ Love” and tagged a post on Instagram. Interestingly, the location of this tweet was “Lahore, Pakistan”, and this infuriated many Indians. Sonam Kapoor should have treaded with caution, and even if she couldn’t help but celebrate Valentine’s Day in Pakistan, she could have not tweeted or turned off her location services before tweeting.

After the tweet caught the public’s eye, Sonam Kapoor deleted it and posted a fresh one that read, “Happy 💕 day. Nothing more important than💗 @ London, United Kingdom.”

It must be mentioned that Sonam Kapoor’s husband, Anand Ahuja has regular photoshoots in Pakistan, with the most recent one taking place in October 2021. Could it be that the couple is in the terror state again for a similar project? Surely, they wouldn’t travel to Pakistan for tourism or a vacation. Or would they?

Anand Ahuja is the founder of ‘Bhaane’, a clothing brand that makes clothes for men and women. His brand stores are located in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore. In October 2021, Anand Ahuja’s apparel brand ‘Bhaane’ was filming at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal Town.

Anand Ahuja Accused of Tax Fraud

Anand Ahuja was recently accused of tax fraud and creating fraudulent invoices to avoid paying shipping charges. According to international shipping company MyUS, Ahuja falsified invoices to avoid paying taxes and customs duties. The shipping company stated that the bills attached included up to 90% less value than what he had paid for the products.

The revelations were made after Anand tweeted about his ‘horrible experience’ with the company. MyUS took to Twitter, and said, “This is not a matter of customer service quality, new policies, or holding items improperly as was tweeted. Mr Ahuja misrepresented the price he paid for sneakers purchased on eBay which would result in him paying less duties and taxes.” It added, “The doctored invoices list prices that were up to 90% less than what he paid for the goods. While our policy is to do our best to rectify any customer issues, we have a duty to uphold regulatory compliance.”

For Sonam, Turban and Hijab are the same

Recently, Sonam Kapoor drew flak for supporting the medieval Arabic dress code for women, while engaging in a nauseating episode of Whataboutery. As mentioned earlier, she compared the hijab to a Sikh turban. She shared a post on Instagram Stories, featuring a picture collage. On the left was an image of a man in a turban, with the text underneath saying, “This can be a choice,” while next to it was a photo of a woman wearing a hijab and the text below said, “But this can’t?” That the hijab is a symbol of oppression while the turban is a symbol of majestic royalty and empowerment was given a miss by Sonam Kapoor.

Bollywood has always had a thing for Pakistan. The Mumbai-based film industry cannot seem to give up its fascination with Pakistan, despite the country making it a policy priority to bleed India with a thousand cuts. As a matter of fact, this tendency pervades all liberal circles of India, which is why brands like ‘Bhaane’ rush to Pakistan for photoshoots at the first opportunity they get.
