Homosexuality and its legitimacy in society has been one of the most discussed topics in the Internet era. Bollywood has a history of ridiculing this subject with movies like Dostana and Partner. Contrary to that approach to homosexuality, Bollywood has now come up with the movie Badhai Do.
Deviation from normal
Badhai Do is one of those offbeat movies, which passes on an empathetic message behind the curtains of comedy. It preaches about the acceptance of homosexuals in society by asserting that being attracted to the same gender is the same as being attracted to another.
Plot
The movie starts with Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkumar Rao fighting with their families against their marriage. The thing is that their families are not aware of their homosexuality as both fear that families won’t accept it. Families’ reasons can also be understood as families want to propagate their genes, which is not possible in homosexual relationships.
Rao and Bhumi meet and decide to have a lavender marriage. Lavender marriage is a marriage in which couples come together for purposes other than family values. After marriage, they move to a new city where they feel free to meet and mingle with their homosexual partners. The problem starts when families start to pressurise them for children. The movie is all about both actors fighting the stigma around homosexuality.
Positives about the movie
The movie is as good as it can get when it comes to representation and cinematography. If Bhumi and Rao are there, you can rest assured that acting would be as flawless as it can get. Rao has worked tremendously hard on the looks of a young dashing small-town police officer. His Dhoni like broad shoulders along with a six-pack body is good enough to pull audience into the cinema hall.
However, good acting is not enough for a movie. If we talk about Badhai Do, it has faulted on multiple fronts to antagonise the audience
‘Hindu marriages are useless’
Like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and other Ekta Kapoor led movies, Hindu marriage has been shown as the most useless part of human life. Rather than respecting the family’s decision, the chief protagonists decide to tamper with civilisational stabilising marriages.

The film is subtly saying that those 7 pheras you have taken and promises you have made to your husband/wife hold no significance. Contrastingly, the film advocates for the acceptance of homosexuals in the same society, whose rules they do not respect.
Unnecessary agenda peddling
LGBTQ concept is not new. It has been a part of human civilisation for thousands of years. Every society has accepted it in the past, but not due to force or coercion. What Badhai Do has done is that it has used a soft coercion tactic to make homosexuals acceptable in society.

Both protagonists have been shown to have above-average looks. Now, if you watch a person who looks and behaves better than you, you subconsciously believe that most of their other activities must be better. This is the reason why actors work harder for their looks compared to acting talent. That’s where Bollywood plays with your mind.
Trying to streamline deviation
It shows that homosexuals are a progression of human civilisation by showcasing that above-average people are homosexuals. The thing is that whatever is shown in the movies leads to a domino effect in society. Now, a straight single college boy who is frustrated in his love life will now find solace in his hostel’s roommate and Rajkumar Rao will act as a moral guide for him.

Earlier, homosexuality was considered a deviation from normal and in reality, most homosexually tilted children realise that they were straight after their teenage years. Movies like Badhai Do will encourage them to stay the same, in turn leading to cognitive dissonance after their brain fully develops in their post-teenage years.
Showing family members as fools
Like Shubha Mangal Saavdhan, the pain of family members have been shown in such a way that it’s a thing to laugh upon. They are shown as fools who do not understand the supposedly modern concept of love between the same sex.
Setting the base for woke agenda
Badhai Do has also set the groundwork for the introduction of scientifically bullocks gender ideology in India. The movie Shubh Mangal Saavdhan had already tried to teach Indians the un-scientific lie of the difference between gender and sex. Basically, Bollywood is using homosexuals to force their perverted agendas.
One thing about modern-day Bollywood is that actors from unprivileged backgrounds can showcase their talents. However, if they start to toe the same line as their privileged folks, it defeats the purpose of originality.
