Champat Rai is the General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and a Leader and Vice President of Vishva Hindu Parishad. He is  a resident of Mohalla Saraimir of Nagina, Bijnor.

Contribution in Ram Janmabhoomi

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s international vice president Champat Rai has been the main advocate and party in the hearing of the ongoing Ram temple case in the Supreme Court. He has been told an important role of Champat Rai in gathering important evidence in favor of Ram Janmabhoomi and presenting it in the Supreme Court. In this regard, it has been decided by the Ram Mandir Trust to make Champat Rai the general secretary of the trust.

Personal life

Born in 1946 in the family of Rameshwar Prasad Bansal, a resident of Mohalla Saraimer of Nagina tehsil of the district, Champat Rai had joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since childhood.

Career of Champat Rai

He was a pracharak of RSS from his youth. Champat Rai was also Professor of Chemistry in Dhampur’s Ashram Degree College.

Champat Rai’s family members say that during the Emergency in 1977 in the case of Ramjanmabhoomi movement, Champat Rai was arrested by the police from the college and sent to jail. He was kept in jails in different districts of the state for about 18 months. Champat Rai did not return to his home after his release from jail and joined the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in 1980 and continued to work with the people of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Recent controversy

The Naga sadhus of Hanuman Garhi temple and the saints of Ayodhya are outraged over Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai’s alleged remarks that “it remains to be seen who has the guts to stop” Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray from visiting the holy city.

In a video recording leaked on WhatsApp in 2020, Champat Rai, who is also the vice president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), is heard making the remarks.

Rai should not have made such a statement, according to Mahant Kanahiya Das, the chairman of the Ayodhya Sant Samaj. “He should think carefully before speaking,” Kanahiya Das said. “In Ayodhya, Uddhav Thackeray and the Shiv Sena are no longer welcome.” The Shiv Sena is no longer the same as it was under Balasaheb Thackeray, the party’s founder.”

Ram Mandir

Ram Mandir is a Hindu temple under construction in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India, near the site of Ram Janmabhoomi, the birthplace of Rama, Hinduism’s most important deity, according to the Ramayana. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is overseeing the temple’s construction. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony on August 5, 2020. Surya, Ganesha, Shiva, Durga, Vishnu, and Brahma will each have their own temple on the temple grounds.
