Poorna Jagannathan is an Indian-American actress and producer who was born on December 22, 1972. She is best recognised for her roles as Safar Khan in the HBO miniseries The Night Of and as Nalini Vishwakumar in Mindy Kaling’s Netflix adolescent comedy series Never Have I Ever.

She also co-wrote, co-produced, and acted in Yal Farber’s play Nirbhaya, which dealt with the taboo around sexual violence.

The play was named “One of the most powerful works of theater you’ll ever watch” by The Telegraph after winning the coveted 2013 Amnesty International Award.

The play is regarded as one of India’s most significant events in the history of women’s empowerment.

Jagannathan was previously a series regular in Netflix’s psychological thriller Gypsy, a recurring in Apple TV+’s crime drama miniseries Defending Jacob, and a member of HBO’s anthology series Room 104’s ensemble cast. She also appeared in the popular Bollywood comedy Delhi Belly and the film Share, directed by Pippa Bianco, produced by A24, and broadcast on HBO in 2019.
