Achievements

Russian President Vladimir Putin personally congratulated the Team Spirit members on their victory at The International 10, and fans of DOTA 2 were quick to recall the leaders’ praise.

Team Russia became the champion of The International for the first time in its history and took home the main purse — $18.2 million, which was more than $3.5 million for each player.

The winning team included Russians Yaroslav Naydenov (Miposhka), Magomed Khalilov (Collapse) and Alexander Khertek (Torontotokyo), and Miroslav Kolpakov (Mira) and Ilya Mulyarchuk (Yatoro) from Ukraine. This is the first international conference since Stockholm in 2019 planned to be free of the Covid-19 outbreak last year. Eighteen teams from all over the world took part, two of them from Russia.

The International Dota 2

The prize pool for The International Dota 2 tournament was $ 40 million. The International 10 set an eSports record with a total prize pool of over $ 44 million.

In the third round of the lower bracket, they passed the real test for the first time, facing the reigning champions OG. However, Spirit quickly knocked them out in the 2-0 series, proving they weren’t afraid of the big stage.

Virtus.pro took 5th-6th place after losing to Russian teammate Team Spirit who won the entire competition.

For the first time in history, Russian esports team Team Spirit has won the International Dota 2 World Championship. Russian esports team wins international Dota 2 tournament for the first time, pocketing more than $18 million. Below is the awards ceremony for Team Spirit, the No. 1 esports team at The International, the world’s leading Dota 2 event.

The public awareness of The International isn’t as high as these events, but a victory is a victory- especially among the younger, more experienced Russians in esports, and Team Spirit’s victory was a huge one. Team Spirit became the first team in CIS Dota 2 to win The International from Natus Win at the original TI in 2011, ending Cinderella’s winning streak by beating popular PSG.LGD at TI10 yesterday. Regardless, Team Spirit managed to beat Aegis and, in the most unlikely story, claim their first Eastern European International title since Natus Vincere lifted the trophy at the first International in 2011. It all started in this area.

For many, this unlikely win is symbolic as it comes 10 years after the last time an Eastern European team won a tournament (Ukrainian team NaVi in 2011). The huge increase is partly due to the fact that the Russian team is participating in the final. Russia has around 129 professional Dota 2 players with a combined earning of over $30 million.

The International Dota 2 eSports competition was won by Team Spirit of Russia, who earned a whopping $18.2 million after defeating PSG.LGD in the final. Russian esports group Team Spirit became champions of the 10th Dota 2 World Championship, The International 2021, beating Chinese favorite PSG.LGD 3-2 in a spectacular best of 5 final at the Dota 2 International 2021 World Championship letter.

Putin’s public congratulations are yet another example of the growing acceptance of traditional esports, and are part of a long history of powerful powers using sporting events to reflect national glory. the Ukrainian team NaVi won, no one from the former USSR stood on the podium.

After losing 1-2 in the first round of top tier Invictus Gaming, Spirit’s chances of success seemed slim. However, Spirit eventually turned the tables and managed to get to the top level with a 10-6 score.

Players of Team Spirit

Yaroslav Miposhka Naydenov, captain and the most senior member of the team, has already entered the 2017 tournament as part of another team. But the breakup dragged on, and in 2017 he only competed in the first World Championship as part of Team Empire. Then unpleasant news awaited his team: Vladimir “Chapi” Kuzmenko, the transported team did not receive a visa to travel to the United States. His place was replaced by Roma “Resolve” Formino, who was then vice-champion of the International 6 and traveled to the race as a commentator.

They were even implicated in the first TI scandal, with the lower seeded teams for the tournament working out of small hotel rooms and training grounds. All the other members of the team made a conscious decision to drop out of school and work in order to train.

In 2019, he was invited to multiple teams, but he declined because he did not see their potential. At the end of 2020, Korb3n contacted him, they have been in touch since Team Empire, and offered him the role of coach. In 2019, he played for Team Singularity and HellRaisers, despite his slump.

At the start of the tournament, he bet 1.53 million rubles ($ 21,700) on Team Spirit at a 28/1 odds, making his $ 44.4 million ($ 631,000) winnings the largest eSports betting income in Russia. The win earned them $ 18.2 million and propelled the squad into the top 20 highest paid esports players of all time. Initially, the team was not considered the favorite of the tournament, but managed to win, perhaps, the most unpredictable victory in its history. October 17 ended “Dota-holiday”, which has been expected for more than two years.
