In June 2018 Shahzad was one of the eleven cricketers who plays in Afghanistan’s first ever Test match, against India. Shahzad played his first-class cricket for Afghanistan in the year 2009–10 ICC Intercontinental Cup which is the the highest level of international cricket below Test cricket.
In the first three seasons of the Shpageeza Cricket League which is Afghanistan’s national Twenty20 competition Shahzad played from 2014 to 2016. He has also played domestic cricket match in Pakistan. On 14th June 2018, he made his Test debut for Afghanistan in which match was played against India.
In the year 2009 he played ICC World Cup Qualifiers where Afghanistan earned ODI status after winning from Namibia in which Shahzad scored a very important 73 runs.
