Dear Anushka Sharma, please focus on acting because your “Aww” letters don’t matter much

Anushka, virat, cricket

We have entered a new era of cricket. The era, in which spouses make a spectacle of their respective partner’s careers. Instead of prioritizing the Indian Cricket team, they are occupied pouring in their emotions for each other. On Saturday, Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s Test Captain. Deeply saddened by his decision, his wife Anushka Sharma took to social media to post a heartfelt letter glorifying Virat’s cricket journey and praising him for ‘immense growth’ during the captaincy period.

Though it is quite evident that the letter intended to portray Virat as the best ever captain as well as an impeccable human being, Anushka has failed to do so. And, the actress, thus, needs to focus on her career as her upcoming movie is declared a flop even before its release.

Anushka’s ‘heartfelt’ letter to Virat

Virat Kohli, on Saturday, broke the news of stepping down as India’s Test Captain on social media. He wrote, “Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test captain of India, it’s now.”

“It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. I’ve done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it’s now,” Kohli wrote in his Twitter post.

Soon after his announcement, the floodgates of conjecture as well as criticism were opened. Anushka, too, penned an ‘Aww’ letter to celebrate Kohli’s career as Captain.

To recall how his journey began in 2014, Anushka took to her Instagram handle to write, “I remember the day in 2014 when you told me that you have been made the captain as MS had decided to retire from test cricket.”

Putting an end to the note, she further wrote “Our daughter will see the learning of these 7 years in the father that you are to her. You did good.”

Anushka seemingly forgot that the immense popularity gained by the cricketer is attributed to the cricket fans and the sport itself. Thus, more than personal, the interest should be in consideration with the Team India.

Anushka slammed for the lack of decency

Anushka’s efforts to ‘celebrate’ Kohli’s cricket journey, however, did not go well with the netizens.

A Journalist named Rohan Dua slammed Anushka for creating a ‘spectacle’. He tweeted, “Quite don’t understand that captaincy or leaving it merits such back to back purgation of emotions by a couple when only interest paramount be that of Team India. Never before spouses of greats Sehwag, Ganguly,Sachin,VVS, Gambhir,Dhoni made spectacle of their careers.”

He further tweeted, “Such was the decency & resolve to stay away from glory & opulence of cricket that only recognisable appearance Tendulkar’s wife Anjali made was during his last match! Not a word before/after. Kumble & Srinath had their moms jump out in joy during 1996 Titan Cup, with innocence.”

Anushka! Keep yourself focused on acting only

Four years since Anushka was last seen acting in ‘Zero’, the actress has been accompanying her husband in almost every cricket tour along with her newly born daughter ‘Vamika’.

The actress is making a comeback with her upcoming film Chakda Xpress. And, the film has been declared a flop even before its release. The fake tan look and nauseatingly fake Bengali accent could lead the movie to a box office disaster. Additionally, instead of Anushka playing the role of the protagonist, the casting director could have given the role to an actress who comes from a Bengali background, as she would have been able to do justice to the character and understand all the basic nuances.

We understand that it is showbiz. However, the on-screen persona is justified only if it has a certain resemblance to reality. Anushka Sharma is nowhere close to Jhulan Goswami’s persona, and that’s what is bete noire about Chakda express.
