Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Thursday (January 13) released the biennial report prepared by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) titled ‘India State of Forest Report (ISFR)’. The report states that India’s forest, tree cover rose by 2,261 sq. km in the last two years, thereby giving a tight slap to the ‘faketivists’ who have made it their life’s mission to target the Modi government instead of going after the real climate-change offenders.
Reportedly, the total tree-and-forest cover in the country includes an increase of 1,540 square kilometres of forest cover and 721 sq. km of tree cover compared to the 2019 report. Andhra Pradesh leads the chart in growing the maximum forest cover with 647 square kilometres. Cumulatively, India’s total forest and tree cover is now spread across 80.9 million hectares, which is 24.62 per cent of the geographical area of the country.
Enumerating the reasons for the increased forest cover, Mr Yadav stated, “The gain in forest cover or improvement in forest canopy density may be attributed to better conservation measures, protection, afforestation activities, tree plantation drives and agro forestry,”
Speaking about the government’s future plans and not sitting on the laurels, the Minister said, “We are entering second phase of the Green Mission, the ministry has taken several decisions for increasing forest conservation and people participation. To achieve India’s aim of increasing additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes CO2 equivalent by 2030, Nagar Van Yojna has been introduced to increase the tree cover and joined with the second phase of Green Mission in the next five years,”
No-holds barred PM Modi raining fury on faketivists
The climate change faketivists are having a tough time battling the Modi government, especially when the PM himself has been batting on the front foot.
As reported by TFI, speaking at a public event in November last year, PM Modi called for doing away with a “colonial mindset”, which is giving rise to many distortions, as India increased its efforts to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement on environmental conservation. At the same time, he took a dig at the judiciary for being swayed by the bogus PIL culture started by the faketivists.

In front of the Chief Justice of India and other high members of the judiciary, PM Modi remarked, “Today there is no nation in the world that exists as a colony of another nation. But this does not mean that the colonial mindset has ended. This mindset is giving rise to many distortions. We can see a clear example of this in the hurdles cropping up in the development journey of developing nations. Efforts are made to close the means and path for the development of developing nations.”

NGOs and the judiciary – a fatal concoction:
As far as the environmentalist NGOs are concerned, the judiciary of the country has given them ample room to breathe and hinder the country’s development. The biggest example of the fatal concoction of NGOs and the Judiciary making a mess of gigantic proportions is the Sterlite Copper plant.
At one time, India was one of the biggest exporters of copper, but the foreign-funded NGOs ensured that Sterlite Plant was closed and as a result, the total import of copper reached 14,000 crore rupees in the last fiscal year.

PM Modi is well and truly aware that there is a concerted effort to derail the development locomotive of the country. Ever since taking charge of the PM seat, PM Modi had toned down his attacking instincts on public forums. However, in the last few months, he has certainly changed his tactics, which augurs well for the country. With the numbers backing him, we may see an even aggressive PM in the public arena.
