During bad times, most of the human population loses their sense of control. Well, the same was the scene with Virat Kohli‘s fans, who started levelling ‘incompetent’ accusations on well-accomplished Saurav Ganguly.

BCCI’s unceremonious sacking of Kohli

BCCI’s unceremonious sacking of Virat Kohli from India’s limited over captaincy came as a rude shock for Virat Kohli’s fans. They just could not digest the fact their beloved, and worshipped leader would not be able to get a captaincy farewell match. Even BCCI also refused to pass any comment on the sacking.

After hunting the internet for any kind of possible explanations from officials, the Virat army was heavily disappointed. They took to Twitter for expressing their disappointment and flatly blamed Saurav Ganguly and BCCI for throwing Virat Kohli out.

Fans took to Twitter to express contempt for Ganguly

A female user called Sarah Waris tried to remind Ganguly of his own sacking during tainted Greg Chappel’s tenure as coach. She failed to notice that same Dravid who was made captain after Ganguly is now on board with him when it came to sacking Kohli.

Another user Devesh tweeted that Ganguly is incompetent to sack a batsman like Kohli, who according to Devesh is 10 times better than him. He forgot that Ganguly, who is responsible for bringing India back from the black days of Azharuddin’s match-fixing scandal is well-versed when it comes to identifying future prospects for the Indian cricket team.

Another user Killer786 falsely commented that it was a bad decision by Ganguly since Rohit will turn 37 in 2022. In reality, Rohit is just 34 years old and has a lot of cricket left in him.

A female fan of Kohli aguishly asked BCCI whether they are thinking of dropping him from the team as well.

Venkata Krishna, senior assistant editor at New India Express reminded Indians that Kohli is the first to be sacked after Saurav Ganguly.

Another Twitter user said that he felt ashamed of having BCCI as India’s cricket board.

BCCI and Rohit did get a lot of support from fans as well

Luckily, it was not a bipartisan opposition to Ganguly, as there were loads of tweets sent in favor of Rohit’s appointment as captain. Most of the supporters were of the opinion that it was a good decision to reduce the workload on Kohli while some also accused Virat of marginalising talented players.

Although expected, the Indian cricket team’s selectors made a shocking announcement on 8th December 2021. While declaring the Indian team for their upcoming tour of South Africa, selectors officially announced the dethroning of Virat Kohli from the captaincy of the Indian limited-overs team. With the announcement, Kohli’s rule is now limited to only Test Cricket.

Kohli has become a demi-God for his fans, and even if some minor untoward incidents take place, they get deeply hurt. They should understand that BCCI’s decision is in the favour of the country and not against a particular player.
