European aerospace giant Airbus has selected India’s global engineering and product development digital services firm Tata Technologies Ltd as a strategic supplier. The firm will collaborate with Airbus in the Engineering, Customer Services, and Manufacturing areas.
Warren Harris, Managing Director and CEO of Tata was quoted as saying, “We are confident that our manufacturing engineering capabilities will help Airbus develop better products and improve efficiencies in their business and we are committed to growing our relationship with Airbus the next few years.”
The company also added that it was a long 7-month process where Tata came on top in every single department, “This is an outcome of an extensive seven month long multi-phased procurement assessment process that covered all Airbus divisions, subsidiaries, and affiliates across engineering, manufacturing engineering, and customer services engineering functions.”
According to an ET report, through the Master Supply Agreement (MSA), the company said it plans to deliver competitive services across the specified areas as well as scale up its presence in Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany) and Seville (Spain) in coming years.

With the parent company Tata Sons recently purchasing the national carrier Air India, the collaboration with Airbus will help the airline business as well. As reported by TFI, Air India is India’s major airliner which connects almost all parts of the world to our country. It has a vast fleet of jets, including Airbus.
As of August 2021, Air India operates no less than 127 aircrafts, which include fleets of Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 747-400 and Airbus A320neo among others. The technology

Airbus and Tata’s second collaboration
This is not the first time that Tata and Airbus are collaborating. Earlier this year, the Government of India gave its first-ever approval to Airbus to co-produce, along with Tata group, C-295MW transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The deal signed is worth an estimated Rs 22,000 crore and the 56 C-295MW transport aircraft will replace the Indian Air Force’s ageing 56 Avro aircraft that were procured in the 1960s.
An official related to the matter had remarked at the time, “For the first time, an Indian private company will be wholly manufacturing an aircraft in India. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), in partnership with Airbus, will literally take raw aluminium ingots on one end and convert it into a flyaway aircraft on the other end,”
The deal is being viewed as a big development in the globalization of the aerospace supply chain and India’s quest for becoming a major aerospace hub. The new strategic alliance with Airbus will further India’s stand in becoming a major destination for big aircraft manufacturers in the supply chain management system.
