When players become bigger than the game for fans

Present Indian coach Rahul Dravid had once got flak for calling attitude of Virat Kohli “a bad example for young generations”. Four years later, he stands vindicated as Kohli’s young fans have now resorted to naming and shaming Sourav Ganguly, the man credited for instilling  a sense of teamwork and discipline among Indian cricketers.

Virat Kohli’s fans stoop to a new low

Virat Kohli Fans have not come to terms with the sudden sacking of their beloved captain. Though writing on the wall was clear from the last six months that Virat may be on his way out, the dethroning of Virat Kohli came as a surprise call for his loyal fans base. This led to massive ruckus online.

Ridiculous tweets abusing Ganguly and BCCI were sent out

A seemingly die-hard fan of Virat Kohli, who urges people to trace him on Twitter with a handle named ‘@ReignOfVirat’ used #KickOutShahGanguly to abuse Ganguly on Twitter. In his tweet, he used a photo of Virat Kohli’s padded leg. Under Kohli’s leg, he had shown Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly as mere barking dogs.

Another user, who is afraid to reveal his/her identity went on to post a picture in which Virat Kohli’s achievements are showcased. By using #KickOutShahGanguly, he/she seemed to suggest that Ganguly had no right to sack him.

This is absolute stupidity as Ganguly is the chairman of BCCI and on top of that, his judgment ability is considered second to none in Indian cricketing circles.

Using the same aforementioned hashtag, another user TrollVK_haters posted a picture representing Kohli as a lone warrior being attacked by BCCI and others who are in support of BCCI’s decision to sack him. The picture represents Virat Kohli as a calm and composed man, a deviation from his regular aggressive demeanor.

Another user Nishita Sharma, who openly proclaims her love for Virat with her handle @MyLoveVirat18 posted a photo that showcased various achievements of Virat. In the caption, she claimed that Ganguly and BCCI are insecure about Kohli’s fame all around the world.

BCCI’s no-nonsense attitude did not go down well with Kohli and his fans

Recently, Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI did not make any bones about replacing Kohli with Rohit. In a simple tweet, it wrote, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward.”

It is well-accepted wisdom that fans always look forward to their idols to copy their mannerisms in their own life. Kohli’s verbal expletives on cricket field as well as outside it, has translated into more than half of his fan base crossing every line of morality and decency to express their support for him.

Virat Kohli has been a phenomenal player of the cricket ball but not all gifted batsmen turn out to be great skippers. Virat should focus on turning his 30s into 50s and his 50s into 100s. That’s the only way to seal the mouths of critics and bounce back to the fame he rightfully deserves.
