Health of Sasikala in the prison

Health of Sasikala is not in good condition her illness struck just six days before her scheduled release from prison on January 27, 2012. Sasikala, serving her jail term at the Parappana Agrahara Prison, had complained of fever and breathlessness.

Sasikala was transferred to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute from the prison due to bad health. T T V Dhinakaran, Sasikala’s nephew and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary, flew to Bengaluru after learning of her illness.

Release of Sasikala

She was released on January 27, 2021, with the promise that she would remain calm until the Tamilnadu General Election 2021, for the sake of the AIADMK party. However, when the AIADMK lost this election with Edappadi Palanisamy as the CM candidate, Sasikala was dragged into the situation to begin her second innings in politics.

Former Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa relied on Sasikala for support. In a disproportionate-assets case, a two-judge Supreme Court jury found her guilty and ordered her immediate detention on February 14, 2017, thereby ending her chief ministerial ambitions.

Krishnaveni Sasikala, better known by her married name Sasikala Natarajan, is a former national president of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). She worked closely with J. Jayalalithaa, the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who led the AIADMK from 1989 till her death in 2016.

Following Jayalalithaa’s death, the AIADMK’s general council chose her as the party’s secretary general. V.K.Sasikala appointed Edappadi Palanisamy as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu before leaving to Parapana Agharaha Jail.

However, in September 2017, Edappadi Palanisamy and a few Ministers betrayed her, removing her from the job and expelling her from the party. She went to court in Chennai after being expelled to challenge her removal as AIADMK General Secretary. This case is still awaiting a decision.

The Verdict and CM

Sasikala was unanimously elected as the AIADMK Legislature Party Leader at a gathering of all the party’s MLAs on February 5, 2017. [16] [17] On February 6, 2017, the Governor of Tamil Nadu accepted Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam’s resignation and asked him to serve as interim Chief Minister “until alternate arrangements are arranged.”

The Governor postponed naming VK Sasikala as the new Chief Minister in order to await the outcome of her disproportionate assets case. VK Sasikala was convicted and sentenced to four years in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail on February 14, 2017, with only 24 hours to surrender. Her bid to become Chief Minister was then turned down by the governor.

In her capacity as General Secretary, VK Sasikala then convened the party’s MLA council. Mr. Edpappadi K. Palaniasamy was unanimously chosen as the next Chief Minister and sworn in the following day.
