Education of Uttar Pradesh Girls
In 1981, the literacy rate in Uttar Pradesh was 28 percent, and by 1991, it had risen to 42 percent. The adult literacy rate was 38 percent in 1991 and 49 percent in 1998, a rise of 11 percent during the seven-year period. However, the gender gap in literacy remained significant: although male literacy was 56 percent in 1991 and girls literacy was 25 percent of Uttar Pradesh, eight years later, in 1999, male literacy was 73 percent and female literacy was 43 percent, according to survey estimates (NFHS II).
Another significant feature of the Uttar Pradesh is the maintenance of greater levels of illiteracy among the younger age groups, particularly among girls, particularly in rural areas. Illiteracy rates in the 10–14 age range were as high as 32 percent for rural males and 61 percent for rural females in the late 1980s, with more than two-thirds of all rural girls in the 12–14 age bracket never attending school.
According to a 2020 survey, the literacy rate in Uttar Pradesh is 81.8 percent for males and 63.4 percent for women. Males have an illiteracy rate of 80.5 percent and girls have an illiteracy rate of 60.4 percent in rural Uttar Pradesh, whereas men have an illiteracy rate of 86.8 percent and women have an illiteracy rate of 74.9 percent in urban Uttar Pradesh which is increasing and we hope it will grow more.

Working Females in UP
According to a new poll performed in four states, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of women workers, with 164 lakhs. The study, titled ‘Female Labour Force Participation in India,’ was undertaken in Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India and expertise business Thought Arbitrage Research Institute (TARI).
Among the states chosen for study, UP has the highest percentage (67.5%) of self-employed women in urban regions, but it also has the largest discrepancy between urban and rural workers.

Child Girls Marriage in Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh (UP), two million girls between the ages of 10 and 19 are married, accounting for 71 percent of the state’s total married population.
The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 makes it illegal for girls to marry under 18 years and for boys under 21 years.
The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021, will apply to all communities in the country and, once enacted, will supersede existing marriage and personal laws.
