Adani is untouchable only if he makes a deal with a BJP Government

Adani, Congress, governments, Rahul, Ambani

Everybody hates a billionaire but wants to be one! If we mould this saying differently and argue that in the Indian context, every opposition party criticizes Adani and Ambani but wants to do business with them, then it would not be wrong. From the Communists in Kerala to Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, and most importantly, the Congress governments in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are happy to deal with Adani Group and Reliance Industries while Rahul Gandhi makes jibes such as ‘Adani Ambani ki Sarkar’ and ‘Suit-boot ki Sarkar’.

Ashok Gehlot, a leader very loyal to the Gandhi family and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, has decided to give 1,500 acres of land to Adani Group to build a solar park in the state. Given the fact Rajasthan receives the highest sunlight for most of the period throughout the year among the Indian states, it has the capacity to become a solar powerhouse. The state can produce solar energy for domestic consumption and export it to neighbouring states.

As per a report by Navbharat Times, Adani Group will build a renewable energy park in Jaisalmer district on Rajasthan for which the state government has allotted 1,500 acres of land. Adani Group is the biggest renewable energy player in the country and among the biggest in the world. It has a proven track record of delivering efficient energy projects in the country as well as abroad.

Congress governments as well as the Congress-supported governments across the country deal with Adani and Ambani groups, but Rahul Gandhi keeps attacking the wealth creators of the country. A few months ago, Rahul Gandhi said, “Airports, coal mines, supermarkets, wherever you see, only two people are visible. Adani Ji and Ambani Ji.”

Previously Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra finalized handing over of stressed-out Dighi Port to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). Interestingly, just like Rajasthan, Congress is an integral part of the government in Maharashtra along with Shiv Sena and NCP.

In Chhattisgarh a similar pattern has emerged, Congress before going into the assembly elections in 2018, had been openly criticizing the mining of coal through the mine developer and operator (MDO) model and had claimed it to be a big source of corruption. Rahul Gandhi had been touring rural areas in the state and had attacked BJP over issues in Mining and corruption. The Congress Vice President launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said his model of development was to benefit only two or three industrialists.

However, after coming to power in the state, the Bhupesh Baghel government gave the contract for mining to the Adani group based on the same model.

The pattern is the same with Mamata Banerjee who previously took a ‘left of left’ stance by opposing the projects of Tata Group in West Bengal, but now actively meeting the industrialists to bring investment in the state.

On 3rd December 2021, Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with businessman Gautam Adani. The meeting was held in Nabanna, the temporary State Secretariat of West Bengal.

According to the details available in the public domain, Mamata and Mr Adani discussed various subjects including investment opportunities in West Bengal. Sharing a photo of his meeting with Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo, Gautam Adani revealed his happiness over having Mamata Banerjee on board. He also expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) to be held in April 2022.

The hypocrisy of leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee is startling. If Rahul Gandhi is a man of his words, then he should immediately call his party leader Ashok Gehlot and tell him to let go of Adani or otherwise his rhetoric in the public will hold no weight.
