Child Marriage, which is a criminal offence in India, is being openly promoted on social media. A teenage couple named Sehwag and Riddhi has created a Youtube channel named ‘Sehwag Riddhi Vlog’, where they share content related to their married life. With more than 34,000 subscribers, many of their videos have more than two lakh views.

Sehwag and Riddhi- the teenage married couple

Teenagers Sehwag and Riddhi Thakur, fell in love with each other during their schooling and insisted their parents marry them off, despite being minors. Instead of ridiculing such childish demands, the parents allowed them to get married.

The YouTube Channel promotes child marriage

The teenage couple created a youtube channel, ‘Sehwag Riddhi Vlog’, where the duo keeps posting content about their married life. From talking about their love life to uploading really intimate scenes, the couple has crossed every level of obscenity.

While on the one hand, some people are applauding them for their “revolutionary” decision of marrying at the age of 15, others are mocking as well as slamming them for openly promoting child marriage in India.

Time for stringent action against the channel and the parents

Shockingly, the parents of the teenagers who were supposed to guide their children to the right path instead supported them in this atrocious crime. They not only supported the teenagers’ decision to marry at such an early age but also encouraged them to glorify their crime on social media. Through their YouTube channel, they have been romanticising their love life which can eventually misguide teenagers.

However, this brings us to a question- Are the parents aware of what their children are doing on social media? Well, if the answer is yes, then not only should the channel be shut down on an immediate basis, but the parents should also be booked for committing such a grave crime. If there will be no action taken against them, then it will definitely set a bad example for the other teenagers.

It is pertinent to note that Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s efforts to abolish social evil like Child Marriage led to its ban in India during the British colonial rule in 1929. However, the adolescents aged 15 and 14 years does not seem to respect the law and have gone to crazy lengths to become internet sensations. And what comes as a shocking fact is that the parents are not even concerned about their children being misguided. It is high time that such activities should not be appreciated and promoted by the general public, as it will only set a wrong predicament in society.
